17" wheels and 265 70 R17 tires on a F150

i have an 84 f150 super cab long bed 4x4 and was thinking crager soft 8s with a 265 70 r17 would look cool, Does anyone on here run a 17" wheel on there F150s/bronco 4x4, i would really like to see some pics if you guys do, also does any one know if these trucks would work with a 33 12.50 15?

33x12.50x15 need a lift to prevent minor rubbing issues.

265 70 r17 is equivalent to about 32 x 10.5 (31.6 x 10.4 actually). Seems like that could be a little close but might work OK.

As to 17" rims on an older truck, I don't have any pictures, but to each his own. I personally don't care for that look, but then again, my opinion on appearance shouldn't mean anything to you. It' your truck, do what you like.

i thought it might for the 33 12.50 15s i was wondering i guess wondered more if the TTB would be able to handle them, i have a 2-3" lift on the front ( previous owner long story)

i normally agree i was kinda wanting that modern agresive bigger wheel look. Thats kinda why i was hoping someone may have done it and had pictures.

this it the truck in question it has 31x10.50xr15s on it right now, just thinking a bigger wheel would help add some extra character to it... no that it needs help there.

Ok keeping the same size dia rubber between a 15" & 17" you have to loose sidewall so the ride will be ruffer and if you have bad pot holes or go off road the tire & wheel can get hurt easer.

I ended up using a set of MOOG 822/824s springs on the front and then had it aligned to not chew through my new tires. Gave it just enough lift in my opinion because I didn't want the hassle of putting on a 4" or so lift kit, but that's just me. Anyways after adding the springs I went with a set of 265/70r17s Achilles Desert Hawk tires and 17x9 Ultra 203C wheels. It rubs at full lock still, but that is because newer wheels on these old truck don't come with enough backspacing/offset to push it out of the fender well enough to clear either sway bar or radius arms. I wouldn't trade my setup for anything else, but that is just my opinion. I looked into 15x8 or 16x8 wheels that had a more backspacing, but I wanted chrome wheels. I never had that much luck finding a set of wheels in 15s or 16s that would suit me, so I went with 17s. Pics of my setup.

You can see the truck above is pidgeon toed a little bit. So it's not quite in alignment and might wear the outside edge of the tires a little bit. As long as you know about this, you can lift it with just springs but I don't want anyone getting any ideas they can lift their trucks just using springs and have it come out with a perfect alignment. You usually can't go over 1.5 inches lift and they still get the tires to stand up straight.

Correct, these were the only pics I had of my truck to show the OP about his question of 17s on a Bullnose. Since those pics, I did get the alignment done. And then rechecked about 1.5-2 months later. It was out just a little, but still able to be corrected. Now both sides are between 0 to +.25. Hard to get any better with the spring install.

i think i'm gonna stick with 15s/16s i never realized how big a 17 would look on a F-150 not that it looks bad. i thin'k i'd like to be around a 32x11.5 r15, or a 235,85 r16( could get a barely used set cheap), i just kinda want more of that 4x4 look. in regards to front spring i need something better than what i got, they were springs my dad bought to convert a 73 f100 into a 4x4 and he sold them to the PO of my truck and they put them on my bullnose for a snow plow so a "stock" replacemet spring or a better upgrade would be what i need.

This is just food for thought. In the early 1990s, Ford had a special edition F150 Lightning, which was for street performance, and it was equipped with 17" alloy wheels. Tire Rack indicates that the tire size was 255/55X17.

Do you remember how much lift the springs gave you? Since you were just able to get it in, I was wondering. Over the years on here I have asked people and read about lifts with just springs, and it seems 1.5 inches was the limit, but the more info and real life experiences I get the better. Some people may be able to get it aligned with more lift, but they may have been sagging a little with the old original springs, Even in that scenario I would not expect over 2 inches would come into alignment, but you never know sometimes.

I’m pretty positive I used the Moog 822s (didn’t want the excessive rate of the 824s, if that’s correct). But it might have to do with my truck; it is a quad front shock and 351W, so there’s some extra weight but not a lot. When I first slapped the springs in there, I prob gained 2”, now I’m right at 1.5ish inches of lift. It took a 2.5 degree for the left side and 2.25 degree bushing for the right IIRC.

Thanks for that info, it should help other people who want the max lift and still be able to get it in alignment.
