Brake Light switch
So it came time to do brakes on my f100. My soft line coming off of my brake master cylinder had rotted off and my brakes weren’t exactly new prior to that so I figured I’d freshen up the whole system. Got everything put back together. Bled 3 of the 4 corners on the truck. Just finished tightening the last wheel cylinder valve and BAM! I lose my pedal. I open the hood to investigate and see that I blew the guts out of my brake light switch where the tin folds around the plastic face that isolates the terminals. I figure the switch I bought was a Chinese pos so I find a new old stock switch in some of my dads junk and try it out. Same thing happend while driving down the road. This is just under normal braking. I’m not making any emergency stops or anything fancy. Was wondering if any of you fellas had the same experience and if so, what was your fix? I’d like to find a switch that works for convenience and to keep the original look but if all else fails, I may just install a mechanical switch at the pedal. |
I would put a pressure gauge on it and see what pressure it is developing.
The 1st switch was CINESEIUM and the 2nd old and the diaphragm most likely dried out. Try to source a quality switch (maybe ECHLIN?). If the box refers to CHI-COM just walk away. |
What kind of pressure am I looking for? I imagine it’s going to be pretty high to squish those shoes hard enough against those drums to stop my truck if it’s going 60 mph. |
