Arkansas General Discussion Thread
Thought I'd start one of these for general BSing and such.
I know I am enjoying these cooler temps. When I was in the Army I was a heat casualty while at Ft Hood, so I don't deal with heat very well. It does look like it's going to turn off quite cool this week, but I'm good with that. Should help improve deer hunting! |
Good evening Luke and Arkansas and I am with you on the heat. I admit as I get older I am liking the warmer day but still run around the house at 20° in shorts, sandals and t-shirt.
I shut down a military exercise many years ago on a hot day. It was a chemical combat exercise and the temp was over 90and the humidity over 100%. We had around 500 people in class A Cem suits. They started dropping like flies in less than 10 minutes. Had about 30 Transported out with Heat Stroke. when the next 20 was drug over to triage I told the Commander "It is OVER" and got on the PA and told everyone to stand down. Yes he screamed and yelled but nothing he could do. Any way my call and position was vindicated! |
That heat is no joke, especially at MOP 4! I was a part of several training exercises that got shut down due to heat.
It was no fun and still isn't!
Looks like fall has came to full blossom today with 45° high and overcast. If we don't have a frost tonight I will be surprised!
Fall busted up into Arkansas like "I heard ya'll was talking smack. I'm here now. What you gotta say now?"
About the way it was here and almost time for me to dig out the wool lined deerskin slippers. But still good in shorts and t-shirt.

We've been camp hosting in Arizona this summer. We're on Mt Lemmon which is just north of Tucson. Of course the elevation here is like 7500', so the temps have been in the 80's all summer. Fall hit us this week, along with remnants of a hurricane, so we've had rain for 3 solid days and temps in the 50's during the day.
Will be glad to pack the motor home and head for lower elevations in a couple of weeks. Not coming back to Arkansas this winter. Last year that Polar Vortex cost the insurance company $9k when the plumbing in our coach froze(we're living in it full time now). Gonna stay where night time temps don't drop below 35. |
Crow I would be heading to Florida for the winter. We found in the RV that in cold weather and living in it during that time it had to be under penned. I have friends who live full time in an RV park in Northern Ohio and they have a heater under the trailer as well.
Yeah I'd say Flordia as well. I spent some time in a KOA campground when I did contract work for FEMA after a hurricane several years ago. They had nice amenities and you got your camp site, cable TV, internet, water, etc for $400 a month
I am thinking Mom and Dads place at Okeechobee was around 400 a month. Included a boat slip and pool!
All that talk of cold always reminds me of Christmas Eve many, many moons ago. The overnight temps got down to about 92. Thought I was gonna freeze to death.

One thing to consider is that the early winter models are showing freezing temps dropping lower this year than normal. Supposed to have considerably more moisture also (El Nino year), so Florida would probably be a good spot.
I agree but before when it happened like that My family at Vero Beach saw snow flakes!
Never saw snow flacks down there, but frost very, very thick. And when you're the only one with a scraper.
