48 F1 vent window help

Good pictures. That helps a lot. It looks to me like your glass is not fully seated in the channel. I believe that you are supposed to use water with a little detergent on the edges to allow it to slip in more readily.

Im planning on starting this this weekend, on my 48, Is your concern how the vent window frame sets in the seals? Ill check back once I get a little hands on and see where I end up.

Were the division bars and vent frames chrome in '48, or just '51-'52? I am just asking because mine have all been painted, and OP mentioned he might have the wrong year.
Hopefully someone who knows way more than me will be along shortly. |
It is also possible that the vent window assembly is not aligned vertically into the door opening. You can push it in too far and it will 'ride up' the opening and go crooked.
By finding the screws that hold it in place you can pull it away from the door and re-set it with a small bubble level. Or maybe your screws are missing. You may need to drill new holes in the door opening to get it to remain in place. As long as the rubber seal makes good contact with both sides of the door it will be OK and avoid wind noise from the gap. That is what I had to do recently to my '49. Reproduction chrome division bars are available for '48-52. I think only the Five-Star-Extra optional trim package had them as chrome originally. They all will fit any door. Tom |

The division bar has room for adjustment. Based on what I see the bottom of the division bar needs to shift forward a little to close the gap at the bottom. JB |

JB Ive noticed on most parts websites that the vent windows are listed as either 48-50 or 51-52. I didn't realize there is a difference with them. Im wondering if I have the wrong ones in the door. |
I am no expert but I think the vent window assembly came as one piece, frame parts and all. The 51-52 has the push button lock and 48-50 doesn’t. The 51-52 also came with a chrome option. I think that is the only difference. The glass is the same part number 48/52 so that kinda tells me the frame is the same. JB |
