Wanted: 1949 F2 brake shoes

Hi all,

does someone of you gents have a lead for new brake shoes?

Mine are either covered in brake fluid and deteriorated, or are hard as a rock. And yeah, getting the drums off with seized wheel cylinders AND a good lip on the drums was real fun!

I need the shoes for the lockheed 12" self centering brakes with the dual bore cylinders, both front and rear. Seemingly this is a one of a kind system and was replaced by mid-51.
Mac's and LMC list them discontinued, and at RockAuto they suggest 11" as being right all the time...

Preferably I would like them without a core charge. As I am overseas in Germany, sending my old units back would be too expensive anyway.
If everything else fails, I could still get them relined, though. But this service is most likely more expensive due to the high labour costs here than getting some new ones. There are only a hand full of shops left nationwide who still offer this service, and you pay them through the nose.

best, Wil

Post a picture of your brake shoes. I believe they are the same as 1942-48 Ford passenger. If they are I have some that can be re-lined.
Thanks, David

Passenger car shoes might be 1/4" less wide than truck shoes.

Front and rear primary shoes with lining, part number 51A 2018, front and rear secondary shoes with lining, 51A 2019. I believe the 51A prefix denotes 1946 Ford cars, so those shoes would have a broader application than just F2 trucks.

The 48 -early 51 are Lockheed brakes. Same as 1946-48 Ford and Mercury passengers and truck. The brake shoes I have are 1 3/4". Yours should be the same. Thanks

Sorry guys, for not coming back to you earlier. I had to pave arond the house and help my hired carpenters all week long, which leaves me all blistered and with sore knees. Thank god my holiday week is over now and can recover again with my desk job...
when watching these men crawling on the roof laths all day despite more than 50 years of age, it commands a LOT of respect.

I wonder how the front and rear shoes can have the same part number, as I thought the rear shoes are 2" instead of 1 3/4. I have yet to take apart the rear brakes, so cannot confirm this.

Several Ford and Mercury cars and trucks were equipped with Lockheed brakes already from 1939-48, so yes, they should be around. I got a personal notification that the shoes are still available.

Thank you, Wil

1939-41 shoes are different than 1942-48. If I can upload a picture I will post both style of Ford Lockheed brake shoes. Thanks
