2015 with 91,000 miles
Looking at buying my first diesel truck. What should I look for with a truck that has 90thousand plus miles?

Check idle hours. Be aware that at 105k a coolant flush is required for both systems, and a transmission flush at 100k. (I might have those reversed). |

I general consensus is less than 25%. It’s higher than you might think because idle time accumulates whenever the truck is running and not moving, so red lights, track jams etc add up. Also, check and be sure there are no oil or coolant leaks. Two areas to watch are a coolant leak from the drivers side of the primary radiator (this issue seems to be less evident lately) and an oil leak from the vacuum pump which sits dead center on the front of the engine. The vacuum pump works loose and oil seeps behind the gasket. Neither of those problems are all that common, and they’re not detrimental. The 15+ version of the 6.7 took really a good motor and made it better. |
Tranny is not due for flush until 150,000 miles unless on the severe duty cycle.
My 2011 needed hubs at 100,000 miles. and I ended up replacing the front steering stabilizer to get ride of the death wobble. Most of my trucks have needed brakes by 80,000, So you might look at those. The little plastic spray nozzles for the windshield washer, Seem to get brittle from the engine heat and need to be replaced. Cheap but just a surprise when you can't wash the bugs off the windshield. Seat leather is always showing wear at 100,000 miles. Couple hundred bucks and you can buy new seat covers. |
I have a 2015 with 78K. All I've done is brakes at 55K and had to replace a windshield washer squirted. Oh and I had to replace my batteries at 55K as well. Seats dont show any wear. Just check for the normal things you would look for on a faster like brakes, leaks, loose steering, shifting etc. These things are pretty reliable now days.

2015 king ranch here with 128k miles that has lived a very tough life. Still on original brakes and batteries although likely due for replacement soon. Third set of shocks. Lots of idle hours, maybe 35%+ but sometimes I leave it idling all night. Deleted with PPEI Tuner (a must IMO), after that no issues besides a small radiator leak (more of a slow drip) that was replaced under warranty.
I had to tell my dealer to perform the 100k coolant service. They didn't want to or think it was necessary and then admitted to never actually testing the coolant "because most people sell these trucks before 100k miles" so just be wary of that. Paint is starting to fail (chip away) in a couple small areas for no apparent reason. I just sanded it and touched up with some kylon to prevent rust. Drivers seat still looks like new but is a little lop sided from getting in and out. Sitting in the passenger seat you can really feel a big difference. Seams in the truck bed have split open in some areas but that is likely my fault from grossly overloading it. Overall has been a great truck and I would buy it again. |
I have a 2017 F250 and i have noticed that the seams in my truck bed are not together either.. This isn't normal for the truck? The seams should be welded together?

Bed seams are not all welded together. The bed has to drain. |

make sure that nobody put GAS in it before trading it in.....
