Fuel mileage?

2017 6.7 mpg
I have read a few different threads on this but most are realated to towing.
I ve noticed in the last 5,000 miles or so my mileage has dropped overall 3to 5 miles per gallon.
I used to average 17 to 18 now it is 14 to 15 even when I really watch my speed say 65 and under I cannot get over 15mpg not towing.
I changed the fuel filters at 20,000 miles have 23,000 miles now
Any ideas what happened to my fuel mileage or what I could check?
Thanks

Any check engine light?
Do you have the ability to monitor non-displayed PIDs? such as EGT?
I had a check engine light for Low DEF pressure, caused me to lose a few miles per gallon on mileage.
If your EGTs are constantly reading above 1k, you may be stuck in a regen status.
Maybe try changing up where you are getting your fuel, or adding a cetain booster such as PM22a

Let us know if you find anything that fixes this.

I do not have any check engine lights.
How would I check PIDs such as EGT
Thanks

Hung up brake caliper, Biodiesel blends will negatively effect mileage. I’ve also found I don’t see the good numbers until the truck has been running 40 minutes and trans temp is up to 200F. Have you changed wheels/tires?

Readgriff 09-26-2018 12:30 PM

I have been using Shell diesel fuel mostly.
Have not changed tire size
Fuel mileage seems to be going down even with summer fuel
Used to see 18 mph avg regularly now 15 mph or less.

A lot of people don't realize how much the tires can affect MPG. Some tires are a LOT heavier than OEM. That unsprung weight can change MPG by more than you think. When I used a load range D on my half ton truck that came with P metric tires I could count on a decrease of MPG by at least 1.

Mouse nest in the air filter box?

Biofuel will noticeably drop your mpg.

Readgriff 09-26-2018 02:06 PM

I just vacuumed out the air box and looked at the filter.
The air flow gauge still shows air filter as having good flow.
Maybe I should change out the air filter and see if that helps with fuel mph.

Smoke at idle? ...sign of leaky injector.

Readgriff 09-26-2018 03:40 PM

I haven’t noticed any smoke and tail pipe is clean.

I changed my air filter at 16K miles and couldn't believe how dirty it was. Price on these filters from Ford is crazy...in the 80 to 90 dollar range. I may end up getting a few online as they show close to 50 bucks. My fuel mileage has been fairly constant since I bought the truck last year...15 mpg in town and 17 on the hwy. Better then what I expected from a 350 DRW with 4.10's.

Around here, Winter fuel starts October 1st. I just wonder if your refineries have already started shipping Winter Grade fuel.
I always loose a couple miles per gallon when winter fuel shows up.

My fuel mileage has been down for the last couple of months or say the last 3,000 miles.

Is your 15mpg all highway?
Have you confirmed the computer is accurate by calculating at the pump?

Readgriff 09-28-2018 06:14 AM

I have not done a pump calculation.
I’m going by my past driving with the on board calculations used to be 18/ 19 all the time now it is 14/15.
