No cruising tonight
Hey all, i have a 99 ford f350 that some dork cut all the wires under the air cleaner that go to the cruise control. Is there a pig tale i can get for that?

My first thought is a junkyard. Or repair what's there depending on how much, if any, they removed.
|
My first thought is that you don't have a 7.3L DIT.
No cruise control module on one of those. |
Hmmm, yea. I just assumed there was some wiring for the cruise system that he'd found in a schematic, but come to think of it, there's no reason for any wiring other than between the switches & ECM so you're probably right about being in the wrong forum.

The ford dealership told me there was a module. Great!!! What forum should i be in if you don't mind me asking

It's a 99 7.3L powerstroke
|
I am assuming not ALL 99s came with CC

1999 Powerstroke.
YouDO NOT have a separate cruise control module. The wires from the steering wheel go straight to the PCM as there is zero mechanical link controlling fuel delivery. A picture of the area in question is in order. |

I'll take a pic and put it on here as soon as i can. It will be interesting to know what it is that has been cut. The truck does have some weird electrical crap going on as well. Like the headlights have to be on for the radio to work and then sometimes even then it shuts off on it's own. And the motor has to be running for windows to work. Could all ofnthis be the same deal as the cruise.

I like to call it Christine. Lol

Sounds like some of the vehicles my parents had when I was little. Want wipers? Turn on the blower. Want headlights? Plush this wire into that hole. Want radio.....um, start by buying one, you can't afford it.
But back to you Hotwolves; there's no cruise control module, all accelerator action happens electronically whether you're using the pedal or the CC. A CC module is on engines with a mechanical throttle system, a cable or rod actuating a throttle body or carburetor. You have several gremlins so your CC could be related to one of those or not. If you can find out from the previous owner what he did to the wiring and why, when the CC stopped working, when the headlight/radio thing started, when the engine/window thing started; any history you can get might help. Electrical is hard enough to diagnose hands on, it'll be a challenge to figure out remotely but there's a good chance someone will come along with some good help. Figuring out what was cut, and any other visible wiring issues you can find, will be crucial. In the meantime, verify that every fuse is good. Check them with a meter if you have one, sometimes they'll develop a micro-crack that goes unnoticed visually. Another suggestion is to not bother going back to that dealership for anything related to this truck. Anyone with an ounce of knowledge should know there's no CC module on this. Not to be taken as an insult to you please, you're allowed to be ignorant about the system, the dealership service department isn't. |
