ATI and/or WW or Both

Hi guys. I've been doing some reading on turbo surge. I rebuilt my turbo last year and put a WW on it to combat the surge, and it worked about 98%.

I was at a swap meet and found an ATI inlet for the stock turbo. $20. Couldnt leave it sitting there. Boot too.

I have not installed the ATI yet but started doing some reading. Guys that did just a WW talked about a bit of flatness in the power curve, which I noticed as well. Some did only the housing with the stock wheel and the surge is 100% gone without loss of power. Yet others installed both talked about no surge at all, no loss of power but a super loud whistle. I make long trips at highway speeds so a constant loud whistle would not be good.

I guess Im asking for some insight here. The WW is installed, the housing not. Housing is easy but changing the wheel is not.

FYI, I have 4" MBRP, Banks tuner on sport mode, Big Head, fuel cross over, oil crossover, boost fooler and the 6637 AIS.

Thanks in advance. JC

I'd go with a new billet wheel like that from Riff Raff, or the WW2. These are lighter and have a modern design. The WW is the OBS wheel, old tech design and cast not billet, so it's heavier and spools slower. It is used as a cure for surge because it flows less. With your mods you can use more air. The ATI housing might eliminate the last bit of surge but you'd still be leaving some boost on the shelf.

I also tried a WW to cure surge and I was pleasantly surprised with the quick spool and extra boost of the Riff Raff wheel. Problem solved.

So let me get this straight, you recommend a billet wheel, like the RR one, and add the big housing? So, billet WW style or standard style?

I need to have no surge while towing and I want the flatness gone. Will the above combo do that for me? Thanks

Sorry I wasn't clear. I'd do the new wheel and skip the ATI housing. I've never used an ATI housing (I'm in CA and that's not smog legal here) so I can't speak to any benefits or problems of one. But I do know the new billet wheels cure surge and give more boost, and that's the goal.

A billet wheel like the RR, SPX, WW2 etc will cure your surge.
