Which end goes where on the oil cooler?
 

Does it matter which end goes to the oil filter sid and which end goes to the coolant side? The guy that just put mine back on my truck said it didn't matter. I dont want to put oil and coolant in it and crank it to find out. Or worse & ruin my truck. Please advise me. Thank you.

The caps will go on either end of the cooler, which one on which end doesn't matter, but the cooler will only mount one way correctly on the engine.

What a relief! Thanks Tom! The guy that put it on hates fords and loves dodges and complained every moment he worked to get it back in the truck. I had it cleand and ready to install when he got here. He trashed ford so bad and was flippant about which way it went that i got really worried. Ther is a large dot on one end of the cooler. Does the dot mean anything?

When I resealed mine, I just tossed the cooler body back on since it is the same both ends.

Were the seals used OEM Ford? Prelubed and pressed together? Torqued to spec? I would keep an eye on the repair for a bit just to make sure nothing loosens up with such a poor excuse for a tech working on it.

Amen to that! He used a rubber mallet but, wailed on it! Im hoping he didnt crack the housing! No, bolts weren't torqued. Could you tell me what that spec is? I have a torque wrench and will do it. Also, i got the kit fromAPDTY. Did i screw up?

Sounds like his shop needs a yelp and google review with a 1 star.

These are enthusiast's trucks. There's a big difference between keeping one up yourself and relying on mechanics in shops for everything.

Your first thread started out sounding like you had a pristine old reliable truck. Now it sounds like you might have opened some money pits. I'm not closely following your threads, but I caution you to proceed carefully. You could end up with some expensive vehicles that you can't count on.

1 truck and it is pristine. I just needed a man to install because i physically couldnt do it. Thought by asking this retired mechanic to help would be best. Bad idea.

Just keep in mind that these guys in this forum are the survivors. They made their mistakes, took their lumps, paid the price and made the effort to recover. Mechanics in shops charge the customer for their mistakes, or go out of business. There are a lot of dead-end threads here where people got in over their heads and were never heard from again. Keep your eye on the prize and don't get swept up where you don't need to go.

You can probably find a mechanic who worked at the Ford dealership when these trucks were current models and now works out of his garage on the side. Or a mechanic who drives one of these trucks. You need a reliable mechanic you can trust to play this game.

Your truck came from the factory with more power and more road prowess than an eighteen wheeler built in 1950 or so. Making a point, date is somewhat arbitrary.

Ford manual shows 14ftlbs for the torque. Not much.

At the OP. You can do it with a few large bar clamps or a strap. Use lots of lube on the orings and you will be fine. As many have said they are definitely an enthusiasts truck.
