Interior rehab/build

I finally decided to “freshen up” the interior of my 99, ordered new rubber flooring from ford, new front seat upholstry from leatherseats.com and some laytex tubing to do the door seal mod at the same time. All my parts came in, after unpacking and i specting they all appered to be the correct ones so I set off to get some of this project stated before work today. Pulled the old seats and floors out, started cleaning the cab. More pictures to come as I make progress later in the week.

Minor differences between floors but nothing I cant modify to work correctly.

Thumbs up to you! Nothing irritates me more than sitting in a dirty vehicle.

Clean and mean!

Got a big yellow dog, do ya? :D

That'll look great when you're finished. Are you replacing the steering wheel or doing anything with the dash?

Squisher 08-10-2018 02:21 PM

I'm curious why you got the 2016 flooring was the older flooring not available?

cool project. I bet your truck will feel like new when you're done. I always say the only real difference between a nice vehicle and a crap one is cleanliness.

Two of them, both german shepherds. Tired of dog hair in the carpet ;)

leaving the dash and steering wheel for now, wheel is in the list but wanna save first. I am happy with my dash, did an Ipad install a while back and the 650 lower dash panel. Build was in an old post.

I did a bit more before hitting a stopping point for today. Got the new floor in, had to make a few minir cuts to make it fit where the 99 has seatbelts anchored but its in. I noticed that the new floor has molding for rear hvac ducting, so I jumped over to tasca parts and found the ducting realitivly cheap so I ordered those up today, figure while I have it all dissasembled may as well do it right.

Ill start re-upholstering the seats this weekend, and hope ups gets the parts here quick.

Placed the old on top of the new and checked that all bolt holes aligned

Some minor trimming around where the 99 seatbelts anchored.

Test fitting new floors

Flooring in, note the loseness on the front footwell area for hvac ductwork. Decided to order parts to add that as well.

I have the utility floor covering in my truck, and a golden shedder husky mix.

Carpet does trap the fur, the utility flooring does not.

Your lady is going to get a cloud of fur in her face every time any window in the cab gets opened... Ask me how I know. :-missingt

puppyf250 08-10-2018 05:34 PM

Nice job there. But, what is the latex tubing update?

DieselBeast01 08-10-2018 06:53 PM

Looking good. I hate carpet, but always seem to purchase vehicles with it and having to change it over. My new truck has black carpet, a real bummer.

Will that rear AC ducting be functional, or just to fill the holes that are cut in the new floor. I am assuming functional, but is it bolt in, or does some modification to the AC system vents in the dash have to take place?

No more lady, now I can spend the money on the truck. This is the first truck I’ve had with carpet, and I hate it.

Puppyf250,

its the door seal mod, Ill probaly try and get to that over the next few days depending on how fast the seats go.

DieselBeast,

I intend to try and make it work, though how the newer duct work will plumb into the 99 I dont know yet. Will definatly document what happens and how I go about it once the parts arrive.

Decided to re-upholster the driver seat while I wait for parts to do the floor ducting. I took lots of lictures and tried to make a how to for others. The next few losts are picture heave but hope they are of use to sombody. Alsonplease forgove my spelling, typing this from my phone is awkward at best.

https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...eca2aa9af.jpeg
Started with the driver seat, here it is after removal from cab
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...c8a6234e4.jpeg

I started by removing the seat rails from the fram. There are four 10 mm bolts to remove.
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...8119a1092.jpeg

Disconnect the brown plug to get the wiring between the seat and the motors free.
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...67d87f7a5.jpeg

Remove the wire to the seat belt buckle from the seat frame.
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...2fd7c0b75.jpeg

Feed it back through the side of the seat, now the rails and assembly can be set aside

Njstern87 08-12-2018 01:10 PM

Here I removed the side trim piece. pull off the knob to the lumbar, just slides off. Unscrew the plastic handle to the seat recline. Remove the screws holding the plastic trim on from the bottom., the two on the side one by lumbar and other behind recline handle. Remove the plastic retaining clip from the back. Set trim aside for later

NOTE: MAKE SURE THE LUMBAR IS ADJUSTED ALL THE WAY IN THE RECESSED POSITION.

Njstern87 08-12-2018 01:21 PM

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...073fcd617.jpeg
Remove the lumbar adjustment knob. Two screws one above
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...8e601ad3a.jpeg

One below, push knob through seat.
https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...c2ea88d59.jpeg

Unclip the lumbar cable from the plastic pice, just pops out.
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...12798b534.jpeg

Remove the two 13mm bolts that hold the bottom and top of seat together.
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...a87cc0f3b.jpeg

On the opposite side use a small prybarbto popnthe pin out of the hinge
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...9ab86f32d.jpeg

Feed the limbar cable through the opening and you nownhave the Seat bottom and top seperated.

Njstern87 08-12-2018 01:32 PM

https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...62a88abcb.jpeg
With the seats seperated, flip the bottom one over somits upside down. You will see four plastic tabs that hold the seat upholstry to the frame
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...09cdb41c9.jpeg

Using a flat screwdriver push the clips out and up to unfasten them from the seat frame
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...53f0d5d2e.jpeg

All four clips un fastened.
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...d18f5bc47.jpeg

With the clips now un fastened simply turn the cover inside out, do NOT just pullnthe fabric off from the seat or younwill damage the velcro that is attached to the foam.
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...185563476.jpeg

Very carefully start to peel the velcro free. I found ine finger to hold velcrow to foam and one hand to pull the fabric side up and away worked best. Its very easy to tear the velcrow out of the foam entirely.
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...e9a4844a8.jpeg

The seat foam and metal frame with no cover. I decided to replace the bottom foam piece on the driver side. The foam is not attached tomthe fram, rather it is simply held on by the upholstery. Just lift the foam away from the metal.
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...1adc4a16d.jpeg

Bare seat frame

Njstern87 08-12-2018 01:42 PM

https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...fcce54c55.jpeg
Place bew foam in top of the seat frame.
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...de321d5eb.jpeg

Flip your new seat cover inside out, its basically the reverse of the removal at this point.
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...463e826f9.jpeg

After some trial and error I found the easiest way is to clip the rear or back clip to the seat fram than pull the new cover up and over the seat. Kinda like dressing a todler.
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...4e964bbc0.jpeg

As you unroll the new leather pull it tight and align the velcrow into the preformed groves in the seat making sure its tight as you go.
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...e6dc21f81.jpeg

Once you have the new upholstery unrolled over the seat, snap the plastic clips into place
https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...ececaebd6.jpeg

Go through the seam and press down on the velcrow to make sure its attached tightly
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...42ee63092.jpeg

Than message out any wrinkles. This takes time and patients. Once its mostly smooth you can set the seat in the hot sun to help get the leather tight

Njstern87 08-12-2018 01:50 PM

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...d651860c9.jpeg
Now to start on the top or back cushion.
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...d9050efca.jpeg

There is one plastic clip on the bottom. Use a screw driver to seperate the clip
https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...d7d1dc4c7.jpeg

It should open up like this. At this point sick your hands inbetween the favric and the fom and unfasten all the velcro, be careful not to tear the velcro out of the foam
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...6ef942a94.jpeg

Start to unroll the seat fabric, turning it inside out as you go along.
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...0740480e8.jpeg

You will find one more piece of velcro, be careful not to tear this one out.
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...9df82581d.jpeg

The seatback cushion with no cover.
