Looking for New truck WHAT ENGINE IS BEST FOR ME???
So I am currently in the market for a new truck, and I started doing research only to find out ford has like 6 engines between 2000-2010 and It all has me a little confused...lol
I have a budget between 10000-20000 depending if I wanna finance or just buy one straight up I'll primarily be using it for a daily drive and towing my camper and my atvs wich together weigh about 9000 I do live in colorado and I'll be towing in the mountains primarily, I'm not so worried about mpg I just want a truck that will last 400k miles witch engine would be the best for....I'm leaning towards the 6.0 despite all the problems but I just found a 2007 f250 king ranch with a 5.4 with 130k miles for 12 grand which sounds like a great deal I'm just not sure if it can tow 9k in high mountain. Thanks Jake Schmidt btw this is my first post so please be nice lol 😁😁😁 |
Save your money for another 12-18 months and buy a later model, or new with warranty, Powerstroke Ford, Duramax GM, or Cummins Ram. The time will pass quickly if you have a goal. |
Do you have a certain model in mind or just as long as it's a newer year and thanks for the advice

.
you do NOT want a 5.4L pulling that much weight and doing mountains. have you looked at the used Fleet/Lease dealers... even the Semi truck dealers with turn in lease pickup trucks... |

I just really dont want to make payments again I just got out of my benz lease and now I have nothing and my girl just traded her 2500 for a colorado which can't tow a sandwich on a good day |
How are the 6.2 on the 2011-13 models still not enough power???
|
You need a more realistic goal. 400k is way more then more most motors, gas or diesel, will make it to with it significant repairs. The only engine that I'd put my money to make it that far would be a 7.3. A 5.4 is not a good motor in the superduty trucks. At a minimum I'd say 6.8 or 6.2. 20k probably won't buy you a low mileage 6.2 so I'd say v10.

I got my 2012 6.2L 2 wheel drive with 3.73 gears... XL, fleet/lease.... in 2015 with 136,000 miles.. for $15k and all the service paperwork...
I carry 1,500 pounds in the truck bed.. and TOW my travel trailer of 9,000 pounds.... no problems.. even with the West Virginia tall Hills.. NE Ohio to very south Texas.... in 4 days... 4 trips. 1,900 miles each way. truck had 4,100 running hours and 600 idle hours... so a freeway truck... over the 136,000 miles. |

I'd say as long as you are shopping, try test driving a couple newer trucks with the 6.2. The 6.2 is quite different from the 5.4 and works extremely well with the 6 speed. I'm not sure 400k is a reasonable expectation for a daily driver/weekend hauler....but a gasser engine is a lot cheaper to replace if you need to do some serious work.

There were several for 17-19500 I looked at with 60-70k. OP you can find an XL 6.2 that will pull what you want in that price range. Just start looking. Mine was 5 hours away but the dealer drove it to my house for $250. Signed and they left. Just ask them. |

I found a v10 with 175k miles for 7 grand would that be something to look at or just a waste of time
