1970 Bronco
 

My new Bronco arrived from Wyoming Monday. gave the interior a bath and dug through the glovebox. It does have a bit of rust in the door area and tailgate but frame and the rest is super solid. Has some 70's diamond tuck panels and seats, even the steering wheel got the treatment. Has D44, manual trans and 302 (tired) but starts on the first spin.

Plans are (first winter) PS, PB, serpentine conversion and front discs. The wife wants an auto trans but that's if I just cant teach her to drive a manual trans. Hope to get the door areas fixed up with some new metal also. Most likely will be stock suspension cause it already sits pretty dang nice IMO.

Worked on acquiring this for 2 years and in this case I just used patience....and more patience.

It so weird to bring home a vehicle that runs let alone isn't a total basket case. LOL

Why are you looking to convert to a serpentine belt? I'm not saying it's a bad idea, but for the most part I don't see a lot of benefit. If you do, keep in mind that most serp systems won't leave enough room for a fan between the water pump and radiator. The serp setup from an Explorer with a 5.0L seems to be the hot ticket there.

Disk brakes would be a great addition.
Looks like the driver's floor has been replaced at some point.
Back when I got my first Bronco 30 years ago, the only way to fix the floor was to screw down a metal plate to cover the rust holes. There was no replacement panels for that area unless you were a metal bender.

I wouldn't go with serp belt just to do it. Only if swapping in a EFI engine.
Is that a Mallory Unilite distributor or is it just a red cap?

Yea, whoever put the floors in is a challenged individual. I will be removing his work at some point for sure.

I've been researching the 5.0 Explorer Serp swap and I'd like to use it to run the PS and A/C that is planned for this winter. Seemed to be the right thing to do for future EFI.

I can't decide between running a regular brake booster or just going all the way and do a hydroboost setup. Not too sure the hydro is really necessary , I put one in my 73 F250 and I'm not one who would say it's all that and a bag of chips. Anyone have any suggestions on that?

Looks like $400.00 so far just getting the doors functioning with new glass on the driver side. Tried to get the locks and latches working properly today. Once they were removed it was obvious the PO made some repairs with "that which is available". LOL Good ole elec tape and wire. Gets you out of a jam every time. The rear track inside the driver door was flat out missing.

Gonna give the underneath one heck of a power washing this weekend.

I'll second that, but I'd suggest just disks in front. I went with 4 wheel disks and I don't really think they work any better than front disk / rear drum. But I do wish I had a working emergency / parking brake, and rear disks make that a lot more challenging.

Thanks for the pics Rich, they all match. I have the glove box tag on card that has the original owners name on it. I've been all over CB for the last few months.

Bronc has the right front axle, 4.09 ish gears (bad memory) and was originally Acapulco Blue which was only offered in 1970 (info from CB)

'76/7 D44 has the discs on it oem.

For TRO it needs an F150 knuckle (I also replaced the bendable "Y" style '76/7 oe steer linkage w/the "T" style frm my '70).

over to the bronk world (frm yonder on FTE). My fav looking vehicle it the '73/9 F series p/u. A nice lifted Tall Boy (+3 inches) w/a short step side and
2 foot wide race stripes is about it (for me) !

Had a new set of Mastercraft seats in the basement for the crew but apparently I don't want to work on that truck so the Bronc got a new driver seat last night and driver door is fully functional. Of course it was a NOT a bolt in affair. I didn't have the correct sliders and had to mod them a bit. Will be restocking my personal grade 8 bolt selection to day at work.
