Tapping into reverse lights

So I have a new to me 2012 F-250 that I want to add some LED bright reverse lights to the rear bumper. Not a big deal I have done this before many times. But what I am looking for is a better way to tap into the reverse light circuit so that they power on when I backup? I have always tapped into the trailer tow wiring plug underneath the bumper. I splice, solder and seal the connection but it is still a hack way to do it in my opinion. Isn't there a better way to add the power wire for the new lights like maybe crimping the wires into a new male spade lug in the trailer tow socket of the vehicle? If so does anyone have a source for connectors to do this?

Soldering and then sealing the connection is best. Any type of connector or crimp connection will have to be sealed also. The factory uses your splicing method in their harnesses, but they use a spot weld instead of solder. Solder works fine for what you are doing and gives a good connection.

Soldering is the best and securest way to go man. Especially for LEDs, I would definitely go with hardwiring to your vehicles reverse harness wire.
