O O Oil
 

I have prided myself on never letting my parking spot have new spots on the pavement when I drive away. Well... recently, my whole parking spot was showered with oil. I looked underneath with the engine running, and there is a stream of oil coming from the dipstick tube bung on the pan. I look further back and notice the oil has been showering the whole under carriage and the truck is just one big drip. Step 1: Park the truck. Step 2: Order a repair kit from DieselORings [LINK]. Step 3: Clean the underside of the truck to halt the oil shower.

So I get the parts and I finally get the time to work on it. The repair goes easy-peasy until I learn that the bung in the oil pan has rounded threads. I am now monumentally screwed with my pants on - dead into boating season. So... Step 1: Clean the ever-lovin' gawd out of everything with a scraper, break cleaner, rags, more break cleaner, and compressed air. Step 2: I get it on as tight as I can with copious quantities of red thread locker. Step 3: I smother the leaking area with "the Right Stuff" [LINK]. Step 3: Grab a can of rattle-can bed liner and blast it like it killed a family member of mine. Step 4: Give everything ample time to set and dry.

I'll know later this morning if it worked.

If oozing continues there is the Golden Nugget, or the Dorman version.

I know it's too late Rich, but when I first bought my 99, it was doing the same. A gentle tightening of the nut stopped it and that was a year ago. I am guessing you tried that or didn't even want to bother with it. I would do the Golden Nugget if it didn't work.

On mine the nut came loose and was damaged. I assume I bent the nut trying to tighten it on the side of the road.

I had the same thing happen to mine recently, I cut out my own felt paper gasket, used flange sealer in the threads and gooped the hang out of everything else with black rtv. Hasn't leaked since

I changed to o-ring and used Ford gray stuff, like for the rear end cover. Never leaked since.

I had success with the Motorcraft RTV TA-31 on mine also.

Someone sells a weld on adapter for $75.

International sells a kit with sealer to. That's how they do there's. Mine started leaking when I switched to the Mobile 1 5-40. But that's probably just a coincident. Been a couple years and is still fine.

Mine started leaking after changing injectors. I assume it had to do with moving the dipstick to get the valve cover off. Probably should check the nut on the dipstick flange anytime you are under the passenger side valve cover.

Yeah... that was step 1 that I failed to mention. After a few rounds of try this and turn the key, I looked deeper into the problem and found the rounded threads.

The oil leak slowed way down to the point where it's a small drip with one or two drops on the pavement after of a day of driving - as opposed to a total driveway shower after 25 minutes on the road.

I bought an ebay version of the golden nugget-which doesn't look like it is offered anymore. It was made of steel, very well machined and has worked great. No mo O O Oil leaking.

I am glad you have it under control Rich. I understand why they call it the golden nugget now. I am all about paying for quality but holy crap that’s a lot of money.

I saw this and should have pounced on it when I had the opportunity, being a third the price. My leak has been resolved for the time being but it sure would be nice to have this option available again, should the leak present itself once more down the road. I had heard someone messaged that seller and he was revising his design but that has been months ago now and the seller has not responded to my messages about the piece making its return to ebay. Glad to hear a first-hand positive review on the piece.
