Garbage in the Carb

Any ideas on what may be causing this? I for sure have not been running the truck enough but did not expect this!

Garbage in the carb

Gotta be modern gasoline + likely ethanol drawing sludge and crap up out of the tank accumulated since 19 and 77, in what's called an emulsion. It will pass through filters. Want to take a peek inside the tank if possible. Stabilizers help some.

Trucks a 1977 and the tank looks to be original so likely has a ton of crap in it also. Another summer project!

Thanks!

Draw a fuel sample from the tank with a hose long enough to reach the lowest point, where any crap will settle. Old stale gas is not good for engines either.

That's from phase separation of gasoline. You need to protect your fuel system. Are you not using a stabilizer? You need a stabilizer that encapsulates water and prevents phase separation. The current best is made by BC3 Fuels and called ethanol shield. Avoid the Lucas because it does not prevent separation during storage.

Have not been using a stabilizer. Another learning experience! Unfortunately nobody has any in stock here so will have to order from Amazon. 2 main choices here are Sta-Bil and Star Tron. From what I see on the internet Star Tron is the better choice so will pick some of that up until I can get the Ethanol Shield. Better something now so I don't have to keep pulling the carb.
Would it be worth while to drop the tank anyway?

Thanks! I appreciate the responses. Truly a wealth of knowledge on this site.

Ethanol shield is actually sold at most home depots. Way cheaper online but in a pinch you can get it local.

Yeah - I saw that after I had ordered it from Amazon. And lucky me it was out of stock at the one nearest me!
Got the carb cleaned out and back on the truck. Nice to have her running again.

Thanks
Ron
