oil pressure light won't go out.

Fixed some small things on my 1964 F100 6 cyl 4 speed. today. Some lights were out in the speedometer cluster and glass was cracked. Now I have all the lights but now that I have an oil light it won't go out. I pulled the wire off the sending unit but no difference. What is my next step? Thanks, Chief

Are you sure you have the right bulbs plugged into the correct hole. Light switch pushed in all the way.
Just a couple ideas. Easy things to miss when ya get in a hurry. Oo.

I was driving my '64 when the oil lite came on. It had me freaking out, but nothing else changed. I put a tee fitting in and an oil pressure gauge.
I had pressure. My idiot light sender went bad.

Not an authority, seems over past year, or so, had to replace the oil idiot light sending unit ever few months, just replace yet again couple days ago. My experience has been when they fail the light does not come on. Suggest check the circuit for frayed or grounded either at the sending unit, or gauge? Just as a reminder, there are 2 types of sending units one for the idiot light and the other for the oil pressure gauge. Also, each has its own circuit and both tie in with the Constant Voltage Unit (CVR) as with the other instrument panel gauges.

Anyhow, thought I would add my 2 cents as food for thought?

Thought I had it fixed! Now different problem

Started working on the truck this afternoon after I got my honeydo list caught up. Tested continuity from the end of the wire at the sending unit to the light bulb socket, no continuity. Started tracing the wire back from the dash and found two broken wires in the loom on the firewall. The white/red wire and a blue/red wire were both broken. AHA, found the problem right? Soldered and shrink wrapped everything back together and re-wrapped the wires with electrical tape and put everything back together. Should work now right? NO! Now the light only comes on when the engine is running and gets brighter with higher rpm's. Almost the opposite problem I had before. Now what? Wonder if it has the wrong sending unit in it and as the light gets brighter it is trying to raise the needle on the oil pressure gauge ( if it had one ). Any ideas?

Dan, the oil pressure sending unit for a gauge looks different and is quite a bit larger than the sending unit for an idiot light, it's easy to see the difference, if that helps.

Pretty sure a picture of both and the #s for each were posted not to long ago. Might do a search.

Pic-far right lower 352 2WD: Both senders are 9278, but the larger of the two is for the oil pressure gauge.

Got it !!!

FINALLY! There was nothing wrong with my oil pressure light except the bulb socket was not in it's hole, the wire was broken, and it had the wrong sending unit in it! Picked up a sending unit from Advantage auto ( $6.99 ). Put it in this morning and Whoopee, it works as it should. Thanks for the help guys. Now the horn :-roll
