F-450 rear alloy rim corrosion

So as the title says, both my rear alloys on my F-450 have corrosion around the stem valve and also where the hub caps are.... the truck is 9 months old, I wash it regularly and it is max over kill truck that does not lead a very hard life, so I was quite shocked to see the bubbling corrosion, anyway it went in for its first oil change yesterday, they took photos of the rims and have submitted them to Ford to see what they say.

Owners of 2017/2018 F-350 dual rear wheel trucks have reported the same problem with their aluminum alloy outer rims around the valve stem.

Your experience should be of interest to them, and their experience should be of interest to you, because if the valve stems are different between the 350 and the 450, and the wheels are still corroding at the valve stem area, then is the root cause a defect in the valve stem, or a defect in the wheel? And if the wheels between the 350 and the 450 duallies are a different size, then is the defect in the shape of the wheel, or in the material that the wheel is made of?

If you could post the photos you referred to of the corrosion around the valve stem of your 450 wheels, that might help everyone get a better picture (pun alert) of the problem that so many 2017 and up dually owners are encountering with premature corrosion in less than a year of ownership.

Just checked mine, 18500 miles, 15 months, minor corrosion. Naturally, I'd prefer no corrosion, but I don't think this is going to cause any issues. Let us know what you find out from Ford please.

Fundamentally different stems from the 350 to 450s from the factory. 350 has a TPMS system with battery and transmitter attached, 450 is just a basic metal stem (no TPMS). Used to be a point of contention for us 450 guys, whining cause we didn't get TPMS. Then the 350 leaks started up, and we changed our tune pretty quick. I have seen very few (if any) 450 valve stem posts in the 2017+ forum.
Interesting to watch as the stock 450 wheels get more miles/time in the elements if this really develops as a class problem, or only impacts a few.

Almost 12k on mine and they still look new. I spent winter in the south tho so no salt. My 2015 F350 had two sets of dually rims corrode at the valve stem and also where the hub cap touched on a front wheel. No TPMS on my F350...just the steel stems.

I just had both my outer rear wheels replaced 3 weeks ago under warranty. Both where corroded around the valve stems. I went in to the dealer, they took pictures and Ford approved the replacement. The truck is 16 months old with 24000 miles on it.

Thats good to know, mine are the same, going around the valves and also where the hub cap meets the rim.https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...482d497f5a.jpghttps://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...02beb97c75.jpg

Does the 450 have Alcoa wheels? If they are, I wonder what Alcoa would say about what is causing this.

No. While they look like ALCOAS, they are actually sourced from overseas.

Those of you with problems on the rear wheels, do you see issues with the fronts as well?

Cracked rims

My f350 factory rims cracked at the valve stem and ford just informed me they will not pay for replacement. Anyone know of any class action lawsuit on this that I can join?
