Fuel filter question

On my 2011 f150 3.5 ecb I cant fined the fuel filter. There is a black box of sorts mounted in front of the fuel tank that the fuel lines run in to. It doesn't look like it comes apart very easy. Is there a filter in it, or maybe a better question is what is it. My 2011 Expo has the same thing and I cant fined the fuel filter on it ether. I know the fuel filter is normal mounted on the frame rail. Thanks for the help.

Get eady to invent a few new 4-letter words.......

It's part if the pump assembly, inside the tank and not serviceable. Brilliant, eh ?

This has been standard on most all production gas powered vehicles for a couple of decades now. I couldn't tell you the last time I saw a separate out of tank fuel filter. Diesels on the other hand....

As mentioned, it is located in the tank. Are you having an issue that would lead you to believe it needs to be replaced?

P.Bronner - My '05/150 has an external filter.
F-150 external fuel filters became obsolete as of 2009. MEANING: 2008 was the last year for external, replaceable fuel filters.

I wonder if the average pump life is any longer with the fuel being filtered first? On the surface I don't like not having a serviceable filter, but I guess if the filter element can hold enough crap to outlive the pump its a non-issue.
