Slim Jim Tool

I have never seen these fail to open a door. We carried several kits on the ferries.

Charlie, Sorry to be "Captain Obvious" but I assume that the lockout feature on the driver-side door is not switched on? The child locks on most cars only affect opening from the inside but I'm not sure how the Hyundai Azera works. Other than that I like eBear's suggestion of getting a locksmith to open the door. Then you can get the door panel off.

I took it to the mechanic that works on our cars. He said the part is cheap but the labor will knock your socks off. You got to take out the whole dash.

Abe, this is usually caused by something being dropped down inside the defroster duct or leaves ingested when the cowl gets full of small leaves or pine straw and isn't cleaned out. I'm not sure which model year you have but but the repair in these videos looks easy enough.

This guy is a little ham fisted but he gets the job done

Here is a how to fix video on a 2010 model

There is a real common blend door failure on Dodge trucks, I wouldn't be surprised if that is what's wrong with Abe's wife's T&C.

Could be but in my experience usually not a rhythmic noise as abe described.

Guys, I did not expect such a great response to my wife's car problem! Thank-you!

Here is a video of the noise. I started the car with the fan on and let it run until the thumping stopped. AS I said sometimes it thumps when no one is in the car with the car not running. I told her it is possessed!

OK, quick question. How do you post a video to FTE? What format must it be in?

The rear door on the passenger side works great so I don't believe that the lockout feature has been engaged. I will double-check just to be sure...maybe it's the passenger side that is broke because it still opens. The dealer even said that there is no way for a slim jim to actuate the door latch mechanism since the door handles and locking flipper all connect to the door latch actuator via cables...nothing to grab onto.

The child lock is activated on each door separately. I found this link that might help you understand what is going on Charlie. Hyundai Azera: Child-protector rear door lock instructions Unfortunately they want you to open the door first.

Here is someone with the same problem and a suggestion on the Hyundai forum Door won't open - Hyundai Forums : Hyundai Forum

Here is a lady with a Sonata with a similar problem but she figured out how to open the door with a broken handle. Replacing the handle would be cheaper if the design is similar.

With the number of Hyundai door opening problems that I see on a internet I can't believe that somebody at Hyundai hasn't developed a procedure to open the door when it is stuck closed like yours. You might want to try contacting or calling them: https://www.hyundaiusa.com/customer-...rns/index.aspx
