Methanol and tuning complete.
Short version, methanol definitely extends distance between regens, and the tuning is hilarious. Ran up north with my 1150 arctic fox camper to look at some investment opportunities, 650 mile round trip. Left with 70% full DPF, regen at 186 miles into trip, finished trip without another, got home with 95%. I haven’t had milage between regens like that since brand new. Power, couldn’t really tell, had approx 8-9 gallons 40% methanol in tank, had about 2gal left. Snow Performance 10gal tank holds more than 10 gallons, I figure 12-13. Thought it would fit between bed wall and camper but nope, I secured it in the dinette. Getting a different tank for the camper that won’t occupy so much space. Great tuning with the mpg-max kit, powered through outfitter switches so I can shut down the system when it runs out. I have low level warning light in the tank too. The tuner, emission friendly SOTF system from Calibrated Power Solutions. Tuner is an Edge CTS2 Pro, very easy updating and interaction to send stock file and get custom tunes installed. SOTF dial is down low left of the wheel, out of sight. Stock tune which bumps power slightly is designed not to increase regens, we will see how that goes. Progressively power increases as you bump up accordingly. #5 pulls some excellent g forces and will lay some 14ply rubber through a few shifts. Was quite comical really. Not sold on the firm shifts, even on lowest setting it’s quite firm, might be going back to stock shift calibration. Next is a no limit fabrication intercooler, cold side piping. Then iscolating the engine oil from the cooling system, oil filter bypass when that comes in, engine&trans air to oil exchangers with variable controlled fan assist, in line oil thermostats to help warm things up in cold weather. Probly missing a few things. I’ll post some pics tomorrow. Pretty happy with results so far. |
Great review Mike! Sounds like a much more stable collection of upgrades than your last go around. Looking forward to the pics...

Thx bud, thanks to not working anymore this truck will be getting rediculous over the next while. |
You going to be able to handle the financial load on your new fixed income?

I just might be ok.......:) |
Not sure if the pics pics are right side up, my iPhone has been a pain for uploading. Pretty straight forward setup. Filled up the tank yesterday, I think it really holds about 14 gallons. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...4921b3a05.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...0384976d9.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...0dc8ce25d.jpeg |
Good god man, there's still snow up there!
|
Pretty clean under the hood, rotary SOTF switch down below. Snow is almost gone, thank God. Lol. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...1012314cb.jpeghttps://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...9f6e8f255.jpeg |
Nice work buddy! Is it hard to source the methanol?
|
What is snow? :) |
Turbo Power -40f washer fluid is 49% methanol, I buy by the pallet, 56 boxes per (4-1gal jugs), was $350cdn taxes in, barely cheaper than water LOL. Heck I can run water if I like, won’t get power bump but I’ll get EGT cooling at least. I thought about tying into the fresh water tank when running the camper.....maybe I should. |

Sounds like a good deal. I had Methanol injection on a 97' 7.3L worked really well!

what nozzle size are you using.
after trying different combinations of 1000ml, 500ml, 250ml, 625ml, my best and final config was three 250ml installed after intercooler / before intake using a stainless steel 3 hole pipe I got from amazon. the three 250ml provides much better amtonazation than using 1 large 1.. I get best result using deicer vs washer fluid. my start range is 1psi boost. power is definitely there, but I go thru 5gals of fluid per 1/2 tank of fuel. and regens are about 120 miles apart during metro stop and go driving. |
