1977 F150 4x4 sway bar installation help

I went thru the technical link lists (must read first stuff) and unless I missed it.....sorry if I did.

Did some google searches as well but keep coming up short. Come close but short.

I want to put a front sway bar on my ‘77 F150 4x4 swb. Got a bar off of a ‘78 Bronco with all the brackets from a local guy that stripped a Bronco for parts. Anyways I cannot find any good pictures or detailed instructions to mount the bar and where the end links attach to etc...anyone got any pictures, directions, dimension locations that could help out?

Thanks!!!!!!

Depending on how soon you need them, I can take pics of my Bronco when I get home in the morning. It has front and rear sway bars and as far as I know they haven't been moved from their stock locations.

For now here you go, I have a parts Bronco also that has the link assy. still there, I can get pics and measurements. But it is raining like crazy out side right now, so how about tomorrow?https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...52a6e7360c.jpg

It’s not an emergency situation. So when ever you guys can get to it. It’s appreciated.

77&79F250, Thanks for the pic and I did find that one. It raises a few questions for me.

I don’t see a hole drilled in the frame where the end link would bolt thru. So that location/dimension etc....is one thing I need.

Also where the bracket goes to the axle. It looks like there are locating slots/tabs on the axle? Keep the u bolt from moving? I don’t see any locating tabs on my axle unless it’s part of the mounting brackets and the diagram just doesn’t show it good enough.

Also it looks like it shows a bolt going thru the bushing bracket to the axle? I don’t see any where on my truck a threaded blind hole for the bracket to bolt to? Am I missing something?

Again when you guys get a chance. Thanks, Frank

In the rain free day light I will look it over and try to get the answers you need.

Ok, sir. Before I fell asleep this morning I crawled under my mojon and took a few quick pictures. It probably won't answer all of your questions, but we can go from here. In hindsight, a measuring tape would have probably helped you more. If you need measurements I can do it again. Also, its super muddy from 40 years of life and my last off road adventure, so sorry for the lack of clarity.

Yes I’d say you got some dirt on there!

If you could a couple of pic’s with a tape measure. Mostly where the end links bolt thru the frame. From what I see on mine I’m going to have to drill those holes in my frame.

When you get a chance.

Thanks!

Thought these might help. Did this mod for youngest sons 75 Shortbed Explorer 4x4:https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...c805062219.jpg

Had to modify the pass side bracket due to it being a different weld on trac bar mount the 78-79 had a cast in type. I welded mine up instead of using the stock U-bolts.
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...d4725b0add.jpg

I used the adjustable trac bar. Replaced the bushing to polyurethane, you just have to size them and order the right sizes from the Energy suspension web site
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...6e2a1247e2.jpg

Drilled and welded in threaded inserts as the frame is boxed on the earlier frame unlike the 78-79.

I extended the li9nks as well, depending on your lift if any.

Did the same on the rear, handles awesome now, son has driven it a few thousand miles thru several states while attending school in Ala.

Thanks for the extra pic’s and it looks like it gives me another option.

I put in a Skyjacker front end leveling kit. Raised the front end about a 1 1/2”. I figured I would have to get longer end links.

Thanks, Frank

NP Frank. Biggest hurdle is shaping the passenger side bracket to fit partially over the track bar mount on your truck. I sometimes wish I would have just swapped in the entire front end off the 78 Bronco. It would have saved lots of time =ing $$. Grind a little at a time. Ours has a 4" lift so you may not have to extend your links much. In fact look on rock auto and find new ones then https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...0dc87a0356.jpg
extend them. They will have new rubber not poly bushings. But regardless new. Got a few at like $6 ea. ROCK AUTO was the cheapest. Same with the front ones just micrometer the swaybar diameter and order off ebay with the size. We were at the end crunching $$ so I reused the bushing straps after blasting and painting. You can get the new greasable ones going off by size, again and they are zinc or cadmium plated. Similar to these, although this is on my 75 F250 2wd build.

With a tape measure. 79 Bronco all stock. Dvrs side.

So if I’m reading your tape correctly in the pictures....I’d say 7.25” and 3.75”. You would agree with that?

Thanks 77&79F250!!!!!!!!!!!!!

77&79F250 04-30-2018 10:19 PM

7 3/8 center of bolt head. IMO
3 1/2 center of bolt head. IMO

Also place the tape measure end right where mine is. A little to high or low and you will be off.

Thanks for confirming the tape!

Eyeballing the passenger side location looks the same?

Thanks again!

Frank
