78 Bronco floor coverings and interior sidewalls
 

Recently purchased a co-workers 78. Nice truck. Built 460 35s lifted and pretty nice
Being in Michigan not many still so solid.
I just missed getting a set of interior panels for the back last weekend.
Originals are gone and just open next to the back seat.
When I saw the used ones advertised I thought it would be worthwhile since it gets pretty loud inside.
Road noise, the mud tires, big block with headers and flowmasters...pretty loud.
Started thinking that a cheaper route may be using bed rug type covers for the those areas.
Truck has the original vinyl floors, and even though there are cracks and want to do something in the cargo area and fronts floors, I do think keeping with vinyl will be better than carpet.
A couple small rust areas on inside of gate that I am looking to cover too.
So...
Wondering if anyone has tried the molded carpet side coverings for a F150 pick up box in the back of their Broncos?
Any good ideas for covering the cargo area floor, front floor mat areas, and inside the gate??
See quite a few gate covers and imagine a generic cargo cover wouldn't be too difficult to trim.
But would like to stay with fairly thin rubber type stuff and not add any more weight to the gate than necessary.
Hoping for some good direction from voices of experience.

This is my first "custom" trim level Bronco.
Over the years I have had a lot of full size Broncos, but all have been XLT Rangers.
So I am now wondering....did customs have the interior panels in the back?
There is trim "edging" around the top bedsides where the fiberglass roof sits.
And vinyl flooring.
But looking last night, I did not see any screw holes or spots for the inside panels to fasten like they would on my earlier Broncos.
How about arm rests? Were there originally arm rests for rear seat passengers?

Mine is pretty low on the factory options.
Manual windows, no ac, no cruise, vinyl seats and floor.
Guessing pretty close to minimum.
Power steering and power disc brakes...guessing that stuff would be standard though.
First one I have had without front quad shocks even.

I was strictly referring to arm rests for the rear passengers.
Mine has low back buckets and a console in the front.
Just wondering if the rear had arm rests mounted on the inside box sides for rear seat passengers.
When I see the interior rear side panels advertised they usually have ash trays and arm rests too.
Mine doesn't have anything at all.
No interior panels, no ash trays, no arm rests and I don't remember seeing any places for arm rests to mount either.

Not sure if everything or anything is actually stock or not either.

24100 is the rear seat armrest pad. 31604 is the rear seat armrest pad base. These parts were also used on some Passenger Cars.

Sounds like you are in the same boat that I am. I bet you are missing the brackets in the image on the top? Those are needed to attach the factory trim panels. You can also see a separate bracket that the arm rest bolts to. Without that the armrest has nothing to connect to. Mine is the image on the bottom and what I think yours looks like.

I tried to reply yesterday but it said an admin needed to approve my post. It sounds like your Bronco never came with the panels which means it didn't come with the required supports to hold the panels as well as the armrest.The panels could still be mounted across the top and side closest to the front of the vehicle but the bottom and back side wont have anything to attach to. Also, the armrest attaches to another bracket with a couple of bolts. This only applies to the OEM panels. I know there are plenty of homemade routes you can go with.

The top two pics is what it would look like if yours came with the rear panels. The bottom pic is what I am assuming yours looks like based on your description.

You are correct.
I know that the big brackets along the bottom are not there.
I will have too look again to see if there was anything for arm rests.
Seems like there was something, but won't swear to it right now.

Glad I didn't spend $$ on the panels and find out I wouldn't be able to fasten them anyways.
Thinking about sound deadening stick on stuff and seeing if I can get some of the carpeted pieces for the sides from a truck bed rug over it.
Just thinking it would be a little nicer quieter in there going down the road.
But...
the 460 with L & L headers and flowmasters isn't all that bad:)

I may have the bottom supports for the rear panels in my pile of parts from the last parts Bronco I had. I'll check later this week if you really want a set. If you are going a different route than factory style panels I won't worry about looking for them. Not sure if they would be at my place or my buddies so it might be a week before I can check for them.
I've got a 460 with L&L fenderwell exit headers and Flowmasters and I get to enjoy the exhaust roar even with sound deadener everywhere I could hide the deadener.:-X22

I been tossing around a few ideas but now that I know more about what would be involved guessing I won't be returning to stock panels.
I found a guy selling a complete bed rug for $100 from his Silverado.
Was thinking about I could make the sides fit and really could use the tailgate covering too.
But I don't really have any intention or want to carpet the floors that are stock vinyl now.
So now the more I think about it I may just let it be.
The thoughts of it being quieter inside going down the highway are a plus, but don't know how much of that I will be doing anyways.
It is hard to argue the appeal of the big blocks sound:)
Tore heater core out yesterday and added few more items to "the list"
Most of those pushed the interior panels further down too.

But I would hate to take the parts and not put them into use.
Will keep it in mind if plans change.

If the OP is not interested I would be. I found a set of OEM panels and the armrest brackets. I just need the lower ones now. Please let me know if you can find them and I would be happy to buy.
