I’m looking for pics/info/suggestions/comments on putting slick sides on a newer bed. I found a pic in another thread that showed the finish product, so it can be done. The bed floor of my 65 is shot. There is also rust on the inner side panels where the floor meets. I am going to pick up a 96 bed this weekend and I’m looking at 2 options: 1. Put 65 sides on new bed. 2. Use entire 96 bed floor and attach the rest or 65 bed parts to it, welding in patch panels where the inner sides are rusted through. I’ll know more when I have the newer bed and can take measurements to see how the 65 sides will line up.

Mine is LWB. Based on dimensions I’ve found online, overall inside dimensions are very close. I think my biggest challenges will be bracing the sides to the new bed once the old inner wall is removed and making the rear post work. On the picture I found it looks like they used the new rear post. It looks to me like it would be easier to use the old. I’ll know more tomorrow when I get the new one home and can put a tape on it.

THREE different Styleside beds. Is your '65 2WD or 4WD or an F350?

Pic: 1964/66 F100/250 2WD & 1966 F100 4WD with short/long Styleside beds. The tool compartment was an option that most of these trucks did not have.

Notice the quarter panels (bed sides) included the wheel wells.

I would be interested in seeing how this turns out. But you do realize that there are only two pieces to these 65 bed sides. The inner sides that are rusted out are part of the top outer part of the bedside. The lower part on the outside is spot welded to that piece.

Mine is a 65 F100 2wd lwb. I understand that the wheel wells are part of the bedsides. If I go the swap bedsides route, the wheel wells would come out with the inner bed walls. I will cut the inner walls out leaving the lip where the outer fender is spot welded.

I got the “new” bed home Saturday, and the dimensions are very close. The biggest difference I’ve found is the wheel well is about 3/4” farther back in the new bed. I got the old bedsides off and the bed floor removed. I’m trying to post some pics put they upload too big.
