Exploded view of the 56 column shifter?

My column 3 speed shifter 1956 F100 is stiff up and down. Is there an exploded drawing for it?
Thanks

Take a look at this article, it shows the pieces in more detail. Hard shifter action up-down probably means the linkages aren't adjusted correctly, or you need to lube the shifter assembly on the bottom of the column (there's a zerk there).

Is that the same for 1955 f-100? If 1955 is different, can you post a diagram for the 1955?

Thanks!

The only differences between the '53-'55 and the '56 is the '56 column is shorter and the shift handle is bent and has the long knob. The '53-'55 has a straight handle and ball.

Here it is:

Contrary to what the repop places say, like Mid Fifty, it is my opinion that 54 and 55 column shifters had the long knob, not the round knob. My 54 has the long knob. My uncle said it was never changed.

Several, or many, years ago I did a survey here at FTE to see if 54 and 55 three speed owners had round or long spherical knobs. The majority had the long knob.

Can someone show me a picture of the bent 56 shifter. Why is it bent? Because of the shorter column or because of the deep dish "life saving" steering wheel?

edit: I see the bent shifter now in the 56 diagram.

So the only difference in the '56 is the short column, bent shifter, and bent turn signal handle, all to make up for the dished steering wheel? That gives the '53 another one year only detail. Flathead V8, radiator, engine mounts, bell housing, etc. Now the ball turn signal and shifter knobs.

Edit: When I Bing "1954 F100 Interior" every hit with an original column and shifter shows the long knob. Not one shows a ball.

Told ya. I don't know where the repop houses get their info. And how many novices accept it like the Gospel truth.

One more thing.... the TS levers still have the ball knob, even 56's

:-hijacked

This is the turn signal lever from my '56 column. I wanted the original in-the-column signal switch, but had to straighten the handle because it was too close to the steering wheel. The only aftermarket handles available at the time were chrome.

That said, it is always possible the '56 had been replaced with an even newer handle. They're a little on the fragile side, and Ford used the same switch for years. We had a '61 Ford van with the exact same setup. In fact, the whole column looked like an even shorter version of the '56 truck.

Mine looks very much like a '57. I just assumed it was '56 correct, because the column came from a '56.

Edit to add: I like the ball knob on the shifter, and the long knob on the turn signal switch. Because I "grip" (hang my fingers on) the shifter but just "flip" the turn signal with a finger.

Perhaps Kevin can enlighten us about the knob on 56 TS handles.

On this 56 Mercury I have the turn signal switch has a round knob but the long knob on the 3 speed selector lever

You can just faintly see the shift lever in the last picture..

This is all correct. Round knob on turn signal and sphere on shifter
