*HOW TO* Installing Factory Door Keypad on 2017+ Super Duty
 
I created a little how-to on powerstroke.org and I figured I'd bring it over here for you folks.....

Coming from a Lariat trim to the XL package, I've missed a few things already. One of them is the keypad. I loved the ability to lock my truck at the gas station with the keys in and still running. After a little research, I discovered that someone has completed this upgrade on a late model F-150. Knowing that alot of the components on the new F-150's are very similar to the Super Duties, I took a plunge. My truck came with the FX4 AND STX packages, so I had Sync 3, along with the ultimate towing cameras, and a few other of the 'nicer' electronics....

You will need to verify you have the keypad door connector, located INSIDE the drivers door, back side near the latch:

It is my understanding that if you have two things:

Sync 3
Keyless Entry

Then you SHOULD have the connector.



I found the keypad on Tascaparts.com for ~32 bucks: Part number: FL3Z-14A626-AB

Since my truck does NOT have the hole cut for the keypad, I opted to cut the door panel to install it. I did this mainly because I plan on upgrading to the painted panels down the road, I just wasn't going to fork over the cash today.

Removing the outside door panel is easier than it looks: (I apologize I didn't take pictures for this portion)

Open the door and locate the one small screw on the rear inside of the door, where the bottom of the window meets the door frame.

Roll the window all the way down.

Remove the flexible rubber window molding/guide from the inside edge of the window frame on the back side. This will expose the (4) 7mm bolts to loosen the rear outside door panel.

Remove the (4) 7mm bolts securing the panel to the door.

Using a trim tool, lift the panel away from the door beginning from the top forward side. It is secured with 3M double sided tape. It's kinda wedged under the lower door trim, so use finesse but it comes out fairly easily.


Cutting into the panel for Keypad Install

The keypad has two tabs on it to hold it in place. One on the bottom that catches the lip, and the one on the top that snaps in place. When you cut, you'll need to make sure these two areas after dremel'ing are tight fit.

Also, worth noting, is the door frame has two holes in it, below the outside panel. One is for routing the wires for the keypad, and the upper one is for the snap clip of the keypad.

I used masking tape to protect the panel, drew lines to match up with the door frame holes, then drew out my keypad cutout with a sharpie.

Remember when cutting, you can ALWAYS take away more material, but you CANNOT add more. Use caution.

Here you can see the top hole will line up and allow the top clip to snap into the panel, and the bottom holes are lined up to allow the wiring from the keypad.

The edges aren't perfect on the sides. They don't have to be. In fact, a little rough edge actually makes the panel fit even tighter.

It fit on the first try! The blue tint is protective tape that came on the keypad.

Be sure to route the wires CAREFULLY behind and outside of the window channel inside the door. I was unable to locate the existing anchors for the harness, so I zip tied to an existing harness outside the window track. *sorry no pics for that one*

Now comes the part that scares people:


You will need Forscan. Please educate yourself on its use. I assume no responsibility for your errors.

BE SURE TO BACK UP YOUR CONFIGURATIONS BEFORE ALTERING!

BCM Module, as built configuration:

726-37-01 x*xx xxxx xxxx Change the * from a 0 to a 1


APIM Module, as built configuration

7D0-01-02 xxx* xxxx xxxx Door Keypad Menu (DKM) & Ambient Lighting (AL): 8=DKM disabled & AL disabled, 9=DKM enabled & AL disabled, A=DKM disabled & AL enabled, B=DKM enabled & AL enabled


If you didn't get a truck with a keypad, chances are you didn't get a truck with Ambient Lighting either :) Your selection in most cases will be '9' here.

These values are copied from the 2015+ F-150 Forscan Values Spreadsheet. I have verified they work with the 2017 Super Duty.



LAST STEP

You will need your door code.


Go to the cabin fuse box, located in the passenger side kick panel.

Remove the fuse panel cover, remove the sill/scuff plate, and then remove the kick panel to access the back side of the Body Control Module. All of these panels are held in by plastic clips and are easily removed. You will find a white sticker that has the door code printed on it.



Go try out your door code!

If you completed the programming properly, you can now access your door code settings in the Sync 3 menus under 'Settings'>'Vehicle'

For those that don't want to manually cut the door panel, here's the part number that has the cutout:

Exterior Matted Black Panel FL3Z-1520555-TA $28.23

Some trucks might not have the code by the passenger fuse box. Once you have enabled the BdyCM setting, the code can be seen on the IPC by:

Using two different keys and cycling to the ON position for ~4 seconds with each key displayed my code on the IPC.

Thanks! It really isn't too hard. Looking back on it now, having a lifted truck.... This keypad sits wayyyyy higher than on my old 08. Kinda counterintuitive when everyone can see what you're punching in......

Somewhere down the road I may actually install it in the actual door panel.

I have an xlt but no sync and keyless entry so it was the only option, plus it’s a work truck so I wanted fast and easy.

After learning quite a bit about this system over the weekend, I really want to know if you actually need the Sync system to make it work. Keyless entry should be more than enough.

Would you be willing to look on the back of your BCM and see if you have a code?

pull the panel for the passenger side fuse box (right kick panel), pull the bottom trim piece by the door, then pull the kick panel out, you'll see the box right there, you should be able to shine a flashlight behind it and see the white label, code is on the bottom.

Much thanks and appreciation for the write up. Performed this on STX and was fairly easy. Although I am not sure what the APIM line does - couldn't tell a difference (changed mine from 8 to 9).

The APIM line changes the Sync 3 system to show the door keypad menu (so you can change the code). Anytime, glad it worked for you!
