How to remove plasitc piece that surrounds the back window.
 

We had heavy rain all day and through the night in my neck of the woods yesterday. We also were under a severe weather threat. I parked my 2000 Ford F150 underneath the porch of my shop. The runoff water from the shop falls on the back glass area. I went to get something out of the truck this morning and noticed water leaking in on the inside of the back window. The seats and carpet are completely flooded in the extended cab area. They squish water when you touch them.

How do you remove the plastic piece that surrounds the back glass?

Any comments, advice, or info. would be greatly appreciated. I just don't want to break anything.

A trim remover tool is the best, they use the premolded tabs with metal clips that hold thru a drilled oval, and pulling and prying will break them. More than likely the moulding around the window might be the problem and that's not to hard to replace, with some ropes and lubricant

Thanks so much for the response. I figured it just wouldn't pop off. Now I know. The reason I was asking about how to remove the plastic piece is what you mentioned in your post. I knew that it had to be fixed with the plastic removed.

Do you know where you could buy a removal tool?

The glass window has studs built into it.. they poke thru the cab wall and nuts on the inside behind the panel... The trim also has studs and the nuts are also on the inside in a second row.. Will try to post a link with photos.

Thanks so much for the reply and what a great link. I am not worried about if I can remove it now. Just looks like a lot of time taking the interior all the interior apart. Just hope I don't break any trim pieces along the way.

But I would rather fix it right the first time. The thread helped a bunch especially the picture.

I was in the dark but now I see the light
 

Boy was I wrong about how I thought this leaking back glass could be fixed. I just got time and watched several youtube videos and I was very surprised. I thought you had to remove the plastic cover to gain access to the back glass. The plastic piece has no part in fixing the leak. It doesn't have to be removed. I have an extended cab. So, you have to remove all the trim pieces surrounding the glass (which is quiet a bit) take the top part of the seat off and remove the back portion of the headliner and remove the bolts to the back glass. Then you have to remove the glass and reseal the glass and apply new window caulk. I can do it though. Just hope I don't break anything.

you can buy a rollof "sealant" at the local Auto Store... just tell them you need the roll for the rear window on a FORD TRUCK.. Its like a 3/8 diameter rope of butyl caulking.. clean the old off and push the new into the groove.. put the joint at the BOTTOM.

Thanks for the reply. I did see a guy in one of the videos I watched use the exact roll stuff you described. It looked like it was a lot less messy way to seal the window vs the black window caulk. I thought it was a good method.
