I have 77 F150 4X4 and am putting in 460 that has front sump pan. Will this set up work for replacment?

Four wheel drive and a front sump?

Kinda close to the front punkin and axles, no?

Don't kknow for sure, just asking, too.

I bought a good 460 engine today to replace my existing 460 that son trashed. The new one has front sump oil pan so that wont work for my application and can't use old one cause a couple rods took care of that. So I was asking if the one from summit will work.

He has a front sump, that's a rear replacement.

I'm using one now, they're good for the money.

Does the oil pump have to be replaced also or will this kit fit to stock oil pump?

You'll need a different oil pump.

Jpegg01 04-14-2018 10:00 PM

So just a stock rear sump oil pump?

somethingclever 04-14-2018 10:27 PM

Yes................

You will probably need to drill the new pan out for the four 5/16" pan bolts in the front and back.

They change the pump too? Or just the pump pickup tube?
On the Windsors you use the same pump for all (but high-volume pumps will hit some pans) but change to the longer pickup tube.

ALL 1975/97 E250/350 460 have a rear sump pan. You will also need the special stud to install the pickup tube to the crank journal.

Yes all will work! I put a ‘77 460 out of a F350 into my ‘77 F150 4x4.

If I remember correctly that kit didn’t come with the nut for the main cap bolt for the oil pick up tube. No big deal. Just a hardware store run to get one.

As mentioned you need to drill out the corner oil pan holes to 5/16” as well as the oil pan gasket if I recall correctly.

I really need to put a rear sump on mine. I currently have a front sump and it is very, very dented.
On a side note, when you install that, can you measure from the trans to where the rear sump is? My exhaust crosses over in that area and I need to know if my exhaust will need to be rerouted.

Please and thank you.

Help me understand this, are u taking about mounting the bracket on the pick up tube to crank main cap? To do that I would have to remove old main cap bolt and replace with this special stud. Is that just a simple remove and replace and torque to spec or do I have to do something special since that is main bearing cap? Also in the pic I attached in post that pick up tube has no mounting bracket? Has some on here used this and can tell me if pick up tube does indeed mount to main cap?
