Has anyone tried one of the single din large screen radios in your ranger?
I have a '11 Ranger that I am looking into putting in a radio that will link to my phone and wanted one with android auto.
Crutchfield says none of these will work in a Ranger but other people say it will but you have to trim the dash plate out a bit and make some supports. I was mulling it over and found others with same issue and they talked about a newer kind of big screen radio that is single din and the screen pops out of the radio when in use. This is one of them. Has anyone tried this in a Ranger and did it fit ok? I ask because Crutchfield claims even this single din doesn't fit so there must be something funny with the Ranger or their information is simply wrong. Thanks. |
They will fit. Crutchfield stated that they would not fit my '05 Explorer but it did.

This is not the same type of radio....look at my link. It is a single din, not a double din, yet Crutchfied still says it won't fit

I have a single din in my '98 ranger and I bought everything from Crutchfield so I cannot see why they state it won't fit.

My 96 has what they call a 1.5 din size radio so to put in a 1 din size you need a filler plate/adapter thing. Did they use the same size radio in the 2011?

How far does that flip out screen extend to the rear when in? Maybe there is internal interference with something behind the radio. I checked the adapter kit thing and it is the same one for the 2011 that I used on my 96 so a single din radio in the opening shouldn't be an issue.

Hard to believe that as long as the Ranger was in production, radio choices are so limited. |
Maybe they mean, without saying it, that the radios won't fit unless you have that adapter kit. I don't much care for that goofy little pocket the kit has but oh well, as long as the radio fits. I guess it would be a good place to store the remote control.
