F-150 5.0 timing adjustment

Ok.. I admit. It is my first time to do this. I have a Haynes manual but, it is unclear. My 1996 F-150 5.0 has fuel injection and I want to check the timing and the book says to remove the spout plug? I know about the old type vaccuum advance hoses but mine does not have one. I disconnect the only connector on the distributor and the truck won't fire off. Where is this mysterious spout plug?

Thanks in advance

Jon

The spout plug in in a separate harness with two wires up near the test plugs that are on the drivers cowl near the hood hinge. You will recognise the spout plug as having two wires that have what looks like a plastic jumper on it.You start the truck remove this spout plug which jumps the two wires together and that puts the truck on basic timeing which is what you need to set the timing. When you are done replace the plug and the ecm takes over then for the timing advances. You should at least buy a chiltons manual at an autoparts store as it will help you with other repairs also.
