1978 F 250 value question

Hey guys,

Hope this isn't against any rules, didn't look like it.

I'm in the market for a 78-79 truck. Found two 78s, one is cream with the 400 and 4 speed manual, original owner bought it new, asking 2k. The other is scary...2500 bucks, 351m that sounds heavily modded...under the hood pics look like it hasn't been touched in twenty years. It has fresh paint but lots of dents...can only imagine they painted over the body damage...and comes with shackles to lower it yuck.

Anyway, wondering if 2k for the 400 is worth it. Looks fairly straight, some dings and possibly surface rust, but original owner still means its actually been taken care of. I'm heading out to see it this afternoon, planned on taking two money orders with, 1500 and 500 in case its not great.

Alex... as in "Alex Trebek"... I 'll take cream w/a 400 for 2500 or 2K for a deal, that way you know what you are getting into.

New blue paint over dents, no under hood work 2800 or 2500, you might be getting a fresh painted shiny POS ? Or not, its always a gamble to let it ride.

Good luck, here is some advice to read up before you get there. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post14696861

Hey thanks! Any opinion on 2wd vs 4wd?

I've got a crazy bronco on coilovers and 37s, truck is more for putting around than being off road, but I also wouldn't want to be caught in snow or something and get stuck.

Both of these are 2wd.

When I buy a truck, I expect to do things with it that require a truck. I own a half dozen trucks. My f250 is the least truck I own. I may insult some here, but my opinion of half ton trucks, are that they are not much more than glorified cars. I personally would not even look at the f150.

My buddy bought an F150 after I strongly recommended against it. He regrets his decision.

Cream all the way, between these two.

I know they are both 2WD, just seeing if anyone would say something like, "2WD is a waste of money all the time."

I'd use this truck for hauling crap occasionally, and as a backup to my bronco that has like 30k dumped into it. I'll be on my way to check the cream guy out here in 15 or so.

The first truck I drove was a 63 chevy 2wd, then a 68, then a 74, then a 79, then an 89. In 1993 I bought a 4wd truck. 4wd is nice, but I've done a lot of work with 2wd trucks.

None of my trucks see interstates, and none of my trucks wear all season tires. I buy snow/offroad tires and just replace them more often. My f250 is riding on Dick Cepek "Extreme Country" 255/85r16s on all four corners. They could stand to be siped, but they are working OK.

Where I live, we have snow on the ground for 4 months of the year. A solid 4 months.

At least you are honest, I admire that.

IMO a 4wd is way better than a 2wd, at least your chances to get NOT get stuck are better.

Really all depends on what the 99% purpose use of the truck is. 2wd versus 4wd maint/operating cost, fuel/MPG, tires, insurance cost ect... have to be factored in.

No coilovers and 37's without a pic..

Good enough? :)

Looked at the 250 tonight, looks like a piece. Lots of rust and things like holes in the body. Going to look at the 150 tomorrow, will wait if it's no good. The 150 guy said he'd go to 2 though, so that's good.

Not a Ford, and not on 37s, but a wheeler none-the-less. Trucks stay at home.

Oh we are going to get along great, you might be my new best friend, with a great sense of humor. }>

I can't take credit for all the damage on ol green.

Very nice Bronco and a rag top to boot. That thing looks like it can hold its own.
