Question for you 6.7 owners
 

I owned a 2000 7.3 F350 for 16 years. It was a great truck but it got old. This site provided great information to me. I’m driving a 2016 Silverado 5.3 now and can’t wait to get rid of it. I want to get a new F250 6.7 . Would you guys buy another 6.7 if something happened to your truck now? Are the newer diesels a lot different than my 7.3 was? How about mileage and towing ? I've had a 2011 6.7L that I put a 145,000 miles on
I've had a 2015 6.7L that I put 88,000 miles on
and I just bought a 2017 6.7L

About 30 maybe 40% of my total miles is with a trailer hooked up.
4H GN that weighs around 13,000 lbs a flatbed with Skid loader or Mini Ex that weighs about 10,000 to 11,000 depending on what equipment I have loaded and a 14' Dump trailer.

I used the trucks. My 6.7 L have been better than any of the 2000 7.3L, 2003 6.0 or the 2006 6.0L trucks that Ihave owned.

I made the jump from a 2000 7.3 to a 2017 6.7 about three weeks ago. I love the 6.7, it's a beast. Very fun to drive. I did not give up my 7.3 by choice, I guy ran into me and totaled it. I was devastated - loved that truck. But... the 2017 has soothed the pain. I worry about all the expensive repair potential of the 6.7 but the new truck is nice. Really nice.

Two bits of advice;
don't buy an '11 or '12 - the newer the better
get an oasis report before you buy one. If it has been monkeyed with then think twice about buying it. We had a 2011 F450 a couple years ago, only about 50,000 kms on it. It spent more time at the dealer getting repaired under warranty than not. When we advertised it to sell the first 4 serious buyers just wanted the vin, they went and got the oasis and didn't buy. The fifth guy didn't get the oasis and bought the truck. :-X10

That being said, don't put it off any longer! You will thank yourself.

I went from a 99 we had for 16 years as well, lots of memories created there to a 2016 new last year. Really no comparison, the ‘16 is just plain comfortable to ride in, quiet, and was a blank canvas for a very short while. No regrets and would highly recommend you go drive one or two or three. The ‘17 and newer with box frame have less oscillation on roads than the previous so depending on your take towards aluminum bodies, may be something to read up on.

I had a '99 7.3L and replaced it two years ago with a '15 6.7L. They are exactly the same truck, as near as could be done from the order book (both are F350 Lariat DRW 2WD). The fuel mileage is as identical as you can measure, I get 20 - 21 empty and 14-15 loaded with the large camper on both (freeway driving).

The difference is, the '15 has much less noise and stink, can't hear the engine at freeway speeds, don't have to turn it off to order in the drive thru, you can hear the radio. Second, the engine is far more powerful, there is no comparison at all, night and day. Third the transmission is far more advanced, works the way a transmission should. 4th, the repair costs I assume could be far higher. I haven't had any repair costs yet, but the '99 ran 91,000 miles with $250 sunk into repairs. I don't think $250 buys a cup of coffee on a 6.7L when something goes sideways, and I purchased the extended warrantee for this truck even though I generally don't believe in them. Right now, absolutely no regrets at selling the 7.3 and buying the 6.7.

I went from a 2001 7.3 with 250k miles to a 2016 6.7. I echo all the sentiments above. The new truck is so refined, quiet, comfortable and reliable. And the POWER.... I have never read someone truly regretting the switch unless they got a very rare lemon 6.7.

I had 2 7.3 2wd manual 6 speeds and then a 2005 6.0 4wd auto.
The 2 7.3 got 25 mpg all day long empty in traffic or not. The 6.0 was about 17 empty daily driving and up to 19 empty highway.
when towing, all of the trucks got 10 mpg pulling my 10k bumper pull. i suspect wind in texas causes most of the loss.
anyway, my 15 6.7 4wd gets 15 running around town, maybe 18-19 avg on the highway with long highway runs close to 20. Pulling the trailer at 75 mph, it gets 10,lol.
i do get better mileage pulling my smaller trailer and it does not notice the trailer back there.
I deleted mine and it helped but very slight. i do not drive my trucks hard

So the 6.7 does not get the mpg’s the 7.3 did is that correct? This would be my daily driver and a little towing a 12k boat and trailer.

On average my deleted 2016 CCSB 4x4 gets just about the same as my 01 SCLB 4x2 ZF6 did. On a long unloaded highway trip (400+ miles), the 2016 does a bit better by 1-2 mpg.

I went from a 2001 7.3 to a 2011 6.7 and then to a 2016 6.7. The 2011 got just as good fuel mileage as my 7.3 did. The 2016 gets 1 or 2 miles less per gallon than the other two trucks did empty and pulling the same trailers

For me, the 6.7 is getting about 20% better mileage than my 7.3 ever got. I only have 1300 miles on the 6.7.

I also had a 2000 7.3. MPG's are similar, but power levels are not even in the same ballpark. It is like comparing apples to watermelons! The 6.7 is absolutely a beast for power levels, you won't be disappointed!

I'll just add for under a $1000 just get the F350 instead of the 250.
