She cranked first shot but didn’t start. 1 no gas and 2 i noticed my ignition coil wire was broken at the one point inside the coil

Is this truck still a 6 volt? If so did you buy thick battery cables, like 0 or 00 gauge?

congratulations on a great score.that is a real nice looking truck

As I bask in the warmth of the seventy-degree temperature in AZ, the frosty mug of your truck brings back old memories of living in the Northeast. I assume you gave the old Gail the sponge bath in the insulated garage otherwise it would have put on another glaze of ice.:-drink

The truck looks in remarkably good condition. I hope it’s a fun project for you.

[QUOTE=Old51f3;17691841]I take it that these are the unwanted widow makers ?
And taking off the passenger side wheels you can see the holes on the bed all that’s to the wrotten wood boards on the back

Widow makers, indeed. Making it more of a challenge, your truck is an early 1951 build based on the location of your emergency brake handle. The early 1951 trucks have the 14” Lockheed rear brakes like the 1948-1950s. The 17” wheels were needed to clear those drums. We’ve not found any simple replacement wheel solutions that can be found in garden variety yards. The tubeless 17.5” and 19.5” wheels that were introduced in 1956 are bolt on fixes, but finding them is the issue. And you live in Toronto so cross border shipping becomes an issue. I believe I know of a member in SD that has (or at least recently had) a set of the 17.5s if you want to look at that fix. Stu

That looks to be in great condition. :-X22 :) I agree, just get it running then drive it and see what it needs.

Thanks stu. If I do decide to keep the OG axel and change the rims to something Bigger I’ve seen some nice 22” rims that look like the widowmakers with ford hubcaps and everything. But how easy would it be to change the gear ratio if the driveshaft to something a little more hightway friendly ..

You’ve seen 22” wheels? Must be the custom aluminum kind. Don’t know of any SRW 22s that have your bolt pattern. If you want to keep your stock Timken but get rid of the 4.86/1 gears you could call Chuck Mantiglia about one of his custom 4.11/1 sets. Here’s Chuck’s web site. Stu

Nice looking truck, my 51 M3 came from western Canada, my has a "block heater?"
in pass. side cyl. head, does yours have one?
Thanks for the link to wheels, I am thinking about a Ford 9",3:25 or even 2:75 gears,
1st gear is quite powerful in these trucks. I do need to have a E brake , not a flat spot on my property here. That second heater is a trip as well, been very cold here in lower Mi.
seen -15 degrees so far.
Thank you for sharing pics of your truck, thanks a bunch man!
Greg

Thanks Greg. I would love to see some pictures of your progress. Post them here if you can .Yes mine has a block heater on the driver side side lol Cyl. Inside the cab I have 2 heaters. The regular blower on the passage side feet. And what it looks like to be some sort of radiant heater on the Driver side .Those rims that I posted are beutifull. Only problem is they cost more the the complete truck lol 1000 per wheel .I’m gonna have to change the e brake cables on mine thet are all seized up right now.

Cheaper and easier to just swap in a Dana 60 from a 1972 and earlier F250. Better gears, more brake and wheel options.
