200 amp alternator, enough juice??
 

Thinking about putting a 200amp alt from a ford excursion, will it fit?
99 e250 5.4l
the mounts look the same am i missing something?
Will it bolt right up is what im asking.

I'd go to an auto parts store and pull 1 of each to confirm it if someone here hasn't done this before

You may check if there is an ambulance option alternator for your year van. They are usually 200amp. It also looks like your vans alternator which is the 3G type was changed to 6G in 02' it seems. So only the 2000 and 2001 excursion will have an alternator that would bolt up but they are listed under different numbers for the vans and excursions and I'm not sure what the differences are. Maybe a custom rebuild is your best bet.

I bought one remanufatured, sp. On ebay, sent like 20 emails back and fourth rhey said itd fit so i got it at 120 bucks. Ill post pics of the whole process, who doesnt like pics.

So how did this go and was it a 200 amp model?

How can i test it?

Had it tested at autozone but they want part numbers to match up.
got another store abe electric, they said theyll tell me everything about it. Going there tom.

Took it in and had it tested by a good company a.b.e electric, produces 194amps with a smaller pully he said it would do more. Its from a 99 expedition, remanufactured 120 bucks shipped off ebay.
not to bad ill be installing it tom.

Be sure to get all the juice you paid for, clean the ground points at block and frame etc, to bright shiny metal. Replace those 20 year old cables.

Its all getting 4 gauge, grounds and hot.

Hooked it all up today, 14.45v at idle, about 30 mins drivin home voltage maxes out in the red, got home, 5 mins later and saw some boiled batts, took off, put old one back on. What would make the voltage regulator jump to 18.68volts (voltmeter) had to check.

Sounds like the regulator took a dump on your new alternator.
