Why are super duty short beds so much freaking money?

I have been looking for a bed for my dad's truck and need one before February. I'm in central PA and it's pretty hard to find a good bed. For one either they are sold or they want a crazy price. Also they are always the most expensive bed that people have for sale. The cheapeat i have found was 1500 and while the rust was minimal it was scratched and dented all over. Is there anywhere people know to find these. I would be willing to travel but would like to make my trip worth while or preferably have one in or around PA. Or if anyone has a nice flat bed for sale I would look that way to lol. Time is running out to get him a bed before inspection. Thanks!

My guess that they're so expensive is that the 8' beds are common for people to remove them and install utility beds or flat beds. So there's an abundance of them. The short bed trucks people don't generally do that with them, so the ones that are available are fewer in numbers.

There is a guy who advertises on craigslist who has fresh beds from Ohio. It always seems to come up when I'm searching for 7.3L parts and stuff.

I'll see if I can find the link

Different pic, from Erie: https://erie.craigslist.org/pts/d/tr...362131334.html

I don't know anything about them, though.

I bought a '15 short bed....$3500.

I will have a Hillsboro Aluminum flatbed for sale shortly....$2k (negotiable)

I would check eBay, CL, OFFER UP, just to name a few.

I did talk to a guy today in southern pa that had 3 beds. All pre 2010. The cheapest in rough shape he says was 1800 all the way up to 3000!! Are these people nuts? The more I look at it, although I don't like the look as much, a flat bed may be the way to go. Lasts longer, tougher built, no paint matching etc. I will continue to keep my eye out across the web to see what comes up

Buy a long bed and cut it down

Colorado350 12-14-2017 06:05 PM

Strap a mattress to the frame! :-X24 :-missingt. Although some of them make $1500 for a real bed sound like a good deal.

Unfortunately it's supply and demand these beds rot so bad up hear that the demand is huge and prices are only going to get worse no that the 17 and up beds won't work at all. Worse part is most of these beds are so far gone they can't even be repaired. I need one for a truck we're building for my son. Unfortunately it's pushing the price of the truck to be unreasonable to fix.

Cabloom,
There was a thread a while back about getting beds from guys working in the oil fields.
Apparently they take off new beds to convert their trucks into flat beds. I know it is a bit of a drive from PA to Montana/Dakots but may be worth it.

There was a member a couple years back, that made his flatbed. Had a thread about it. Came out sweet! If any metal fab skills, build one yourself... There's plenty here in CA

To be honest if I could find a utility type bed tool box set up I’d give/sell my truck bed in a heartbeat to any free’r needing it…but I think mine may be a long bed…
