idle problems?

I am super fed up with this problem. I know one of you NC boys can help this NC girl with it. When ever my 2000 Ford Ranger has been sitting for a period of time(over night) and I go to start it in the morning it will start and then shut off. I will eventually stay at an idle after one of two things happens, you drive for about 15min and then leave it off for a few and then start it again, using the gas peddle to give it a boost, or you just start it and leave you foot on the peddle for a few minutes until you hear it kick it. But the second one doesn't always work. I can follow directions well if someone can give me some advice on what I can do before I have to take it to someone and spend $150. Truck care is very expensive down here in Kill Devil Hills and a lot of places like to take advantage of girls, and/or don't fix it all the way so you have to come back and spend more money! HELP!!

Hey Ashley.
now, now, take a deep breath. Have you had the truck codes checked? You can have them done for free at most parts stores like Autozone, NAPA, etc. Give them a call and see. If i had to guess, i would say the idle solinoid is sticking or going bad. I am not sure about where it is on the ranger, but it should be a easy fix. I just did a F-150 a little while ago. I had a F-150 with a coolant temp SENSOR go bad and cause a problem like this. Let me know.

Hi Ashley, Welcome to FTE, and the North Carolina forum. We are gonna move your post to the Ranger forum, because we think you can get more response there.

I know you have to be excited about the upcoming event in KDH this December. I am truly amazed at the progress air travel has taken in 100 years.

have a great day
