Dose any body know the horse power and torque for the chevy inline six and the dodge slant 6. How do they compare to the 300 Inline 6 by ford?

I dont know...but i just wated to get my hat in the ring to find out just like you! haha....That 300 motor has got to be one of the best ever made. Everybody i talk to, no matter what brand they are loyal too, talk well about the Ford 4.9L.

they made other straight 6s besides the 300?? good question tho, i did remember seeing a thing that the 300 actually made the close to the same amount of power as the 305 cheby, 318 dodges...kinda interesting huh

inline 6s definitely beat V-6s and V-8s of the same or similiar displacement- they are easier to keep cool, thus make more power and are more durable, get better gas mileage. Personally- I never plan to own another engine in any vehicle that isnt either an inline 4, inline 5, or inline 6. Thats how i feel about 'em. Take care- J.D., KCK

yes, for made other inline 6's... correct me if i am wrong, one was roughly 150 CID and was used in the 60's and another was around 200CId and used in passenger cars up through the 80's

I thought my six was the best, untill the valve lock broke and let the valve drop into the piston. :( I wonder if it had anything to do with my Crane cam mushrooming the tops of the valves? Any of you 4.9 owners notice this after installing the common 270° cam?

i know that AMC made one great inline 6. the 258 is a great engine, lots of torque and run forever. something like 115 hp in a 82 jeep cj5, i know this was in other cars too, not sure what years had better power because mine had all kinda of emitions crap and the carter feed back crap carb. right now though after a rebuild, cam, header, custom tuned mopar fuel injection, and mild ported heads the thing will go through anything. 270hp now too.

well i'm pretty sure the 300 is bigger than any other inline 6.

I believe its the biggest gasoline powered six cylinder engine made...?

I would say proudly that the 300 out torques all other sixes. The hp issue.... well a jeep 4.0L wins.

I would say that the 4.9/300 six is an excellent engine. But none are as bulletproof as chryslers slant 6.

IIRC, the GM 4.8L version made 130hp/270tq in the 89 model.....the Slant 6 made like 95hp/150tp(?) out of 3.7L.
