5.3 LS fit in 53F100

My project 53 F100 has been resting without much attention for a year. Just finished installing a Speedway Mustang IFS a while back and now tried to slide our 2002 Tahoe 5.3 in between the frame rails (with the auto tranny still connected). Because of the height of the tall intake and the large size of the oil pan the darn thing won't slide because it hits the cab. Looks like I'll have to lift the cab and slide it back. Is there another way ? Anyone out there done the same install because I'm looking for help on selecting a mfg of motor mounts that would work best considering other factors like headers install, steering column linkage, etc other factors. I'm guessing the original GM block connected motor mounts aren't proper anymore. Anyone got any suggested mfg's on those items that'll help out that have done this motor install already. maybe you'd share a pic or two...did you have to shift motor a little towards passenger side because of steering linkage issues ? Thanks to those willing to assist..:-down

I was considering installing a 5.3 from a Chevy truck and did some research regarding that swap. You need to buy a new pan...GM performance sells one that has a shorter sump. I think Summit racing also sells the same gm performance pan.
Several companies sell adapter mounts to bolt the 5.3 to standard SBC frame mounts.
I ended up not putting the 5.3 in my truck so no pics.

Just take the intake off, its a lot easier than messing with the cab. It's probably due for intake gaskets any way. You can use any mounts designed for an SBC, and just use the LS adapter plates.

I’m doing the same swap now. Unfortunately I’m at a stand still due to work. My MII crossmember and frame stands are tack welded in and I’m using adjustable motor mounts. Installing the engine and trans was easy for me but my cab was off the frame. I installed the motor mounts and frame stands on the engine. Set it where I wanted and tack welded the frame stands in place. Before I permanently weld I’ll install my 2002 fbody stock exhaust manifolds, Holley oil pan and steering column and linkage to make sure everything clears then weld every thing up. The mounts and frame stand came from from CPP

Hey Ablast..you mentioned a Holly oil pan...guess that means you had to change it out because the stock pan was to deep ? If you haven't put your cab back on frame how do you know the engine and tranny clear the cab firewall and floor, and steering linkage/column are clear of exhaust manifold and motor mounts ? These ? are floating in my mind so I'm curious how you've assured yourself they're not problems unless you reinstalled the cab. Did you purchase an aftermarket tilt steering column or find a salvage yard one.. I'm not hip to all the current auto co's so who in the CPP you refer to ? Thanks for your help...

The Holley oil pan is a lot more expensive than the GM performance.

$370 compared to $200

Your truck is trying to tell you something. :(

I’ve had the cab off and on more times than I can count yes the Holley pan is more than the GM performance pan but it also gives me more clearance between the pan and the rack and pinion steering. The original truck pan will hang to low. I posted the frame stands and engine mounts somewhere on here not long ago. I’ll see if I can find the part numbers for you. And yes I’m using CPP’s tilt Steering column also.

Thanks for sharing your experiences Ablast with the two oil pans. Would appreciate learning the CPP PN's you used for your frames stands, engine mounts , and steering column, it may save me time/mistakes on my project. Also would love to see pic's of your project..have you posted any threads with pic's ?

The stands and engine mount p/n’s are CP4810-S, LS1-KU-P. I don’t have the p/n to the column but it’s a 30” Long 2” Stainless version. Unfortunately I don’t do a very good job of picture taking. I always forget and seem to have trouble posting them. There’s a few in my profile but not much. I don’t mind sharing info at all. I started this project reading here for months before I touched the truck. If you’d like I can email you pics of the frame stands as they are today. jwhitsell8536@yahoo.com or text
