Test Drive...?

Has anyone been able to test drive one yet? There are a few dealerships receiving them since late October yet theres noone who posted a test drive of one or anything. Sadly, even now i would have to drive atleast an hour to see one when they do come in. none have even been ordered locally except for my personal order. For those who mightve gotten theirs, how do you like it so far?

Picking mine up tomorrow morning, will let you know after that!

Why did they make you wait so long?

Long story, but good things come to those that wait!

Picked my wife's up today. I'm very, very impressed! This is a luxury vehicle that is easy to drive, comfortable, quite, and full of technology, yet can haul and tow decent loads.

The new vehicle is a 2018 Expedition Platinum Max 4x4 with every box checked. Old one was a 2017 Expedition Platinum 4x4 w/short wheelbase. The 2018 is better in every aspect measurable, including how easy it is to drive, despite being longer than the old one. Payload is even better, last vehicle was 1315 lbs, new one is 1563 lbs. More power, 10 speed transmission is a great improvement. Shifting is so smooth you don't even notice it unless you are watching RPM's or the gear indicator. The drive mode selector now controls the CCD suspension instead of having the old menu-driven CCD setting selection, and there is a noticeable difference when changing between drive modes.

I had high expectations for the new one, and Ford hit it out of the park! Wireless charging works flawlessly. Place the phone on the pad and boom it's charging. Being able to fold both rows down with 2 button hits is awesome. New cargo management in the rear is very well thought out. Quality and design of interior is incredible. Driver assist tech light adaptive cruise, lane keep, etc works great just like in the F150 and Super Duty. So many high spots I don't even know where to start! Here are a few pics.

Nice!

The cargo area light is a nice touch. As are the tie downs. Their also appears to be significantly more storage bins, pockets etc from my 2015.

One thing I have been worried about, is the raised belt line. Not from an exterior aspect, but how it affects comfort and the view from the inside.

Do you notice the shorter windows and windshield? I enjoy the open view from large windows and windshields.

Also how is the raised window sill? Could you comfortably rest your arm outside the open window while steering?

All these reviews and folks actually taking delivery is sure getting me excited. I wonder if I will get mine this year. It was ordered the end of August.

Visibility still seems great when out on the road. And when, maneuvering at close quarters the 360 degree camera eliminates any visibility concerns with objects close to the vehicle.

I actually like the new window sill design as well. This was one of my gripes with the old design. The old one had more of a sharp 90 degree corner to it that was not comfortable on long trips. The new one has a wider ledge with a smoother transition, and then recedes back into the door a bit before meeting the actual armrest. I'm 6' tall and tend to rest my arm on the window sill on any vehicle I drive, and I find the window sill 2018 Expedition in the "sweet spot" from a design & height perspective.

Only 200 miles on it so far, just running errands and went out to eat the night we picked it up. Too soon to have any concrete fuel mileage estimates, but it seems just a tick better than our 2017 Expedition but it is not getting as good as my 2018 F150 by about 2 mpg.

As far as favorite feature, it's hard to nail down just one. I'm going to go with driving dynamics. This vehicle feels planted and is confidence inspiring, yet does an outstanding job of absorbing harsh road obstacles like pot holes and railroad tracks.

One surprise that sticks out is the fold-down conversation mirror in the mini overhead console. I thought that was a nice touch by Ford!

I was hoping that ford improved the ride of the expy and it sounds like they were able to do so. I hope the base suspension ride is as good as the ccd ride, from some reviews, they say its just as plush. Is there a difference btw the suspension modes?

I remember the 03 to 06 expy had the mirror without the sunroof option, its nice to see them bring it back. I wouldnt be surprised if ford adds the intercom system now available in some minivans.

Were you able to try out the massage seat function? Is it worth the premium to step up to the platinum model?

How does the family like it so far?

lastly, does yours have the google alexa feature? I heard ford is adding this to their sync 3s?

Sorry for all the questions, since your the first to publicly own, i have to direct my curiosity questions to you lol

Yes, suspension is noticeably different when switching between drive modes. Although none of the drive modes have the "gushy" feeling that the 2017 had when placing it in comfort mode.

Massage seats work great. Hard to answer if it's worth stepping up to the platinum. I don't regret it if that helps!

How does the family like it so far?
Kids love it so far. My boys have nicknamed it the "presidential escort" lol!

Haven't tried that one yet, not sure if it's there. Will give it a shot next time I drive it.

No worries, I'll do the best I can to help!

Rabidsnowmobiler, curious, what does your owners manual say about fuel for the Platinum as it's power is rated higher than the other models? Anything like "87 octane but premium fuel preferred"? Thanks
