Alternative to sand blasting my Son found.

Check this video out. Stripped 2 square feet of paint off an old Caddy in 14 seconds.

Holy crap, $1000 bucks for that! Seems like a rip-off to me.

I don't know how bad that price is myself. But that is what they charged their customer. Not what it costs to do it ourselves. I guess it could be compared to taking a truck body to be professionally stripped in a dip tank.

Was that a commercial air compressor or a generator?

TeachNlive4ever 10-23-2017 02:57 PM

evilbay has a 10 gallon tank rated for working pressure of 65-125 PSI for $120. someone be a guinie pig....

Why do you want to sandblast your son?

Rasputin53 10-23-2017 04:47 PM

I have been seeing that advertised around me a lot. Seems like a simple enough setup. The key is the industrial air compressor. I have a three cylinder 60 gal 100% duty cycle, and it doesn't pump up like that commercial unit. I didn't see them showing the rental cost on the compressor. Probably need 15-20 gal tank and a way to get material in it. The blast nozzle is very large. Could probably source that with a little digging on the intarweb.

Hahahahahaha :-X04

Anyway, I had the inside of my bed done with one of these. Dustless blasting is the new "thing" in car stripping. BUT, the guy did it "dry" meaning it was just a straight sandblast where he didn't use the rust inhibitor and water along with it. I'm assuming it also keeps the surface cooler as well as being dustless. I would have had the whole truck done but too expensive. Inside of the bed was the worst part. Currently, it's in the body shop to get painted and they have stripped it with aircraft stripper.

Looks great. I've been looking into this for my 67. When I'm ready for paint. How much did having the bed cost?

I looked into this awhile back , I was thinking about starting a business doing it .
But being in California the damn tree huggers are already complaining the sludge would end up in the storm drains . so I gave it up .
But it does look like a better way to strip old paint/rust , No dust ! the water keeps the metal cool so no worries about warped panels .
Cost is crazy , I was looking at a trailer all in one package crazy $$$$$

You could always buy one of these from Northen Tool.

That way you can sand blast with your power washer. No dust or heat issues.
