Bucket truck

I am looking to purchase a 78 model bucket truck. The the vin is f82JVCF0848 I was talking to a mechanic about replacing the headgaskets due to leaking. He asked me what motor was in the truck. I told him it was a 3208 cat. He said that was rare in that truck. So my question given the vin# is it the original motor?

Original engine was a gas V8.

F82 = F800 (gas).

J = 475 4V V8 (7.8L) / (J is also the VIN engine code for 1973/79 F100/350 460 4V).

V = Kentucky Truck Assembly Plant.

CF0848 = 1978.

Number dummy, thank you for the info. I wonder why they went from gas to diesel. I know it was purchased from a military base by the second owner. I'll post pics once i get it to the shop.
