Transmission

I have a 03 5.4 f250 4x4. Does anyone know what transmission is in it and how it would be set up better to tow? Thanks

It's a 4R100. It is set to tow. What do you want to be improved?

Hey Mark, while we're waiting for the OP to answer your question, I have one for you. With my auto 4R100 transmission, I usually disengage the OD manually when approaching a steeper hill knowing the tranny will downshift at some point. In fairly hilly terrain, this can be a constant action on my part ( to engage and disengage the tranny) and I got to thinking, should I just leave it in OD and let the transmission just do its thing? (downshift by itself) Am I hurting/stressing something by taking out of OD manually?

You are not hurting it at all by taking it out of overdrive. I don't think you're helping it, either. It's going to be fine either way.

OK then. I guess I'll just let the transmission do its thing the way it was designed/programmed.
