Cast iron timing chain cover

Working on a 1979 460 refreshing all the gaskets but the head gaskets. My question for the Ford Truck Enthusiasts is

what years did the 460 have a iron timing chain cover?

The current allumum timing chain cover after cleaning the gasket and rtv sealant combo off i discovered The mating surface dosent appear to be in the best of shape.

This is where RTV sealer is your best friend. Clean it and the block very well. I use contact cement to afix the gasket to the iron block. Put RTV on the housing mounting surface and bolt it on. A lot of things have to happen in a hurry because the water pump helps hold the housing on.

Hi Wtroger, After removing the timing chain cover i cleaned the prior gasket material off the block surface. After i got to bare iron i repeatedly wiped down the area with ppg adhesive remover. Good stuff. I wiped it down until nothing a clean towel.
Thanks for the advice i really appreciate it. Should be done this weekend woo hoo.
