1990 460/5 speed into 1993 F series, fuel tank and other swap questions.

I have a 1993 F150 (named Shorty, the blue and white one in my Avatar) which is going through quite a transformation.

Shorty started as a 1993 F150, reg cab shortbox, but the entire chassis, drivetrain, and interior was lost in a garage fire. I was left with a freshly painted cab, front clip, and bed. Normally, I would call it a loss and sell the parts, move on, but Shorty was my very first truck. Hate to give up on a truck I've had for 21 years.

So last year, I procured a 1990 Ford Bronco that had a rotten body and a Solid Axle swap from a 78 F150, As well as a 6" lift kit already installed. I'm currently in the process of stripping the body off ( no engine or trans came with the Bronco) and I will install Shorty's cab and shorten the bed to fit the chassis.

So, at that point, I have a 93 F150 on a 1990 bronco chassis, with a solid axle swap. No interior, no drivetrain, no wiring.

I just purchased this weekend (havent even gotten it home yet) a 1990 Ford F250, extended cab 4x4, wit ha 460/5 speed. Its rusty, it runs, and this will be the base for my drivetrain swap. I plan on installing the 460/5 speed and transfer case into Shorty, and thats where things get fuzzy.

Physically getting everything to bolt up is the easy part. my issues are starting with the electrical and dash work, the ECM, and the fuel system.

In an ideal world, I would run a 92-96 dash and interior, and run a single fuel pump, single tank fuel system. Thats my goal. I do have a dash and dash wiring from a 1995 F150 that was a parts truck from a year or so back. I also have all of the wiring and dash from the 90 F250 that i am getting.

So, using the parts I have available, how can I get my truck put together with a 92-96 dash, and a single fuel pump system?

Get an engine harness from a 92-97 460 and the computer. The Broncos pump should run the 460 fine.might have to change the radiator to, not sure on that

IIRC, the bronco has a different pinion angle facilitated by the perch location on the axle and the bronco was a small engine only vehicle. since you can get mounts for any F series those years for the 460, you can make it fit, but the driveshaft will be a hybrid

if you are using a truck dual tank harness, there is a loopback plug to eliminate the tank selector and run the truck on rear tank only. I forget if the brick/aeros had side tank only 1 tank, if they do, the loopback plug will need to be wired differently.

also, the front springs will have to be in the 1600/2000 lb range vs the typical light duty fronts (not lot $$ at all) to support the 460. You will need the cab tranny floor pan from the donor to cover the shift location of whatever you installed and you will need the pedal and shaft assembly to handle the clutch duties. I do not think there was a MAss air/SFI 460 ECM, so any speed density bank firing one will work.

if you use the deeper 30-something gallon bronco tank, you need the matching FDM, as a truck rear 19-something gallon tank one wont get all the gas out.

curious as to how you shorten the bed down to what 4.5 ft?

The wiring from the '95 F150, if SD, will work for your swap. You need the engine harness from a '92-96 460 truck.
The engine harness from the '95 would work but might not be physically large enough for the 460 (I assume it's a 302 harness). If you felt like it I'm sure you could lengthen it where necessary with pieces from the '90 harness.

You need a '92-'96 SD ECM from a 460 truck - obviously 5 speed or maybe a C6 truck. The 1990 ECM will not work because of the different ignition wiring. Grey vs Black TFI basically.

The speedo on the 92+ dash is electronic while the earlier trucks are cable.

So use all the '95 wiring.
