It will be interesting to see if (and how) this develops and grows. Here's a thought that we can dig into... While driving six hours yesterday on back county roads to attend a prebid meeting for a prospective job for our company, I began remembering when I used to do a lot more day-tripping to client locations, and recalled the "Superduty Wave" -- the friendly acknowledgement and greeting towards other SD drivers... it was something I've neither seen much of nor thought much about in the last couple of years. Yesterday, though, I began watching for those "waves" from other SD drivers in the oncoming traffic lanes, and saw very few waves initiated from other SD drivers and very few responses to my initiated waves. I was slightly surprised. It has always seemed that most of the country folks driving the back county roads have generally always been more "friendly" in the years gone by. Are you guys seeing the same thing? Are we all just too busy and/or too distracted with our growing accumulation of electronic gadgetry to even notice the oncoming SD drivers? Back in the day, it used to be the norm to lift a couple of fingers from the wheel when you met someone on a country road - a way of acknowledging a neighbor. In recent years, there have been a LOT of folks moving to the country/mountains; the new arrivals can be distinguished by their "whole-hand" excited wave (or none at all). On the other hand, most of them are gone again (from the mountains, anyway) in 3-4 years - we refer to them as "winter kill". :) |

It means a day of rest changing the oil and doing the hutch mod at long last. I ran the truck on low for the last couple days hoping to keep the fuel tank light, but going up over a steep incline it started sputtering. Yikes! Took about 5 miles on flat to get it to sound normal. I anticipate a light tank. I'm gonna try to clean it while it its down.

Man, I can't believe you let any of that fuel tank stuff anywhere near that interior. One spilled drop and you'd be smelling it forever!!
So anyway, back to morning coffee... Here's my grandson playing around in my TR6 this morning. He's loves the F250, since his Daddy drives a Chevy diesel with a stack, and he always comes running when I drive it. Well we were supposed to get 97% eclipse coverage here in South Dakota, but it didn't amount to much. It started really cool, but after 15 minutes, it was back to normal daylight. I heard it got almost nighttime in other parts of the country.

Anyways, this morning has reminded me of my biggest pet peeve in driving a diesel as its time to fuel the old turtle. The nearest fillin' station has just 4 pumps, 2 of which are diesel friendly so usually it's occupied with 2 cars deep in standby. I try to give them my business when I can but when it's like that I bypass it and wait to fuel up in the bigger city where I work. The convenient station near work is much bigger - 14 pumps, but still 2 only diesel. The remaining 12 pumps can be completely empty but I'll be darned if those 2 diesel pumps aren't nearly always occupied by gas-powered motors. Is a little awareness to be considerate which pump you take too much to ask for? :-X15 Time for some more coffee for this bitter, morning grump. Let's keep the pet peeves going with our 7.3s.... |
Here in northern GA the eclipse was quite amazing. I compare it to seeing pictures of the Grand Canyon and then standing on the rim of the canyon, there is no comparison.
This is similar to how I saw the eclipse, the pictures you see online or in a magazine did not do it justice in regards to 100% coverage (totality). |
San Diego only got 57% coverage at maximum. If I didn't know it was a solar eclipse I would have thought it was slightly overcast and the sun was temporarily behind a cloud for 20 minutes or so.
Since there was a marine layer I was able to take a quick look up at the beginning of the event and see the moon start its pass in front of the sun before I had to go back to work. Not the most notable thing I've ever done but it isn't something you get to do every day. |
