Does anyone else average only 150 to 200 miles between regens?

I always thought there was a problem with my 13 that averaged 125 to 175 miles between regens. I traded it in on a new 15 and have been averaging 175 to 200 miles between regens. I live in rural, hilly country with very few stoplights. I've tried almost every station around for better fuel but I think my area just has crappy fuel.

Mine has done that same thing for as long as I have been keeping track. I have 6" lift and 37" tires so it is like I am going up hill all the time. I get 12-13mpg no matter if town or highway unless I have a tail wind then I get 15-16.

That's right where I'm at.

I also regen pulling my 9k travel trailer even though I know I'm working the truck hard (oil temps 220-230) egts roughly in the 700s.

I live in southern Idaho and we must have some crappy fuel here too.

Funny you post this now as I am seeing Regen from 200-250 right now.

2016 F450 regen about every 1000 km more often in winter , got tired of wasting fuel to please the enviro gods so just completed a delete , wow!

Makes we wonder how the Duramax guys (if the guys on the forums are honest) ~500 miles between regens when the 6.7 Powerstroke was supposed to be so much more efficient.

Ways to reduce regen frequency:
1. Eliminate short (under 25 mile) trips
2. Increase cetane level with a cetane booster (I like Opti-Lube Summer Plus) to reduce soot. Off the shelf options include Stanadyne, PM22 and Diesel Kleen
3. Use a fuel catalyst like Archoil's AR6200 to reduce soot
4. Add the %DPF Full to the gauge screen so you can tell when a regen is needed, then take it for a 30 mile run to let it complete.
5. Run either a 5 Star or DP-Tuner daily tune. Combined with the above, the tunes increased my intervals from about 350 miles to 500 miles.
If I run short trips, the interval will drop.
I use the aCar app to log all my regens so I can tell what the interval is without guessing.
FWIW, most of the country with the exception of CA and TX has low cetane diesel fuel

I'm in your boat with my '16' 300-450 between cleaning. In reality I don't pay much attention to it till it actually starts a clean to see how low the % goes down before it stops cleaning which by the dash display screen is 30% almost everytime. I always have a 2.5 gallon jug of def for when the 500 mile display shows then I'll dump that in. When near a wally world I'll pick up another 2 jugs again, 1 to top the def tank off and 1 for when the 500 mile warning shows again.

300 miles +/- 30 is what I get on my 15. A little more frequent when we're on the beach hauling the truck camper. I do use cetane boost, pm22.

Not that you said that, but DEF has nothing to do with regens. DEF is sprayed into the SCR while driving to reduce NOX.

I don't no why but always associated the 2 together.

My 16 goes about every other tank per regen (400 to 500 miles). And to 2nd what Skimuggs said, avoid the short trips. I think idle time may affect that too. I usually only warm my truck for 3 to 5 mins when cold and rarely just let it idle.


Ah, I so wish I could find someone to do this. So far 2 dealers that I have contacted have just stared at me blankly like I was asking them to mount wings to the headlights. One asked that I leave it with them for a few days, and they would figure it out, but also said come back in 3 weeks to do that.
