Four Speed Manual?
I've known for a while that for 1986 and earlier in that body style, Ford offered both a three speed and a four speed manual transmission in the Econoline van series. I assume that the three speeds were column shifted, but what about the four speeds? Were they also column or were they on the floor? Also were they NP435s? I've never seen a manual Econoline, does anyone here own one/have pictures/videos? I'm curious to see what they look like. Keep in mind, I was born five years after column shifts were entirely discontinued....:-X04

My Dad had a full size 70s Ford van that was 3 speed floor shift V8.

The last year for the manual transmissions was 89 or 90. They offered 3spd's, 4spd's and later ones 5spd's.
The 4spd's and 5spd's were both floor shift. The most common type of 4spd's that I have seen were the old 3spd with OD. Where the shifters were of external linkage variety ( like the 3 spd's and old car 4pd's ) and mounted on the tail shaft housing. The shifter comes thru the floor by the passenger seat. I've only seen a couple that had NP435's. And have no clue if they were a factory option or swapped in. The NP435's and the 5spd's had the shifter's come thru the back of the dog house. A very small percentage of the Econoline's built were manual transmissions. And most of those were in the E100/E150's. I plan on swapping a NP435/NP205 combo into my 89 E350. I've got all the parts to do it. I'm just trying to get some other projects done first. Here's the pics I've got. 4spd's: https://s19.postimg.org/enginyz6b/30...ps9ef06006.jpg https://s19.postimg.org/moa2xc3tf/19...ps8mbc1yfu.jpg https://s19.postimg.org/lsi6vmjir/19...psflsj8mk1.jpg https://s19.postimg.org/qbufh51eb/19...psca8cgn4d.jpg Here's one of a NP435 or a T-18/T19 ( don't remember which ) : https://s19.postimg.org/lgx50hksz/00...Y4_600x450.jpg And the 5 spd: https://s19.postimg.org/btx895a37/19...eedshifter.jpg These are the pics of the donor van I bought a few years back for my swap parts. It was a 5spd too: https://s19.postimg.org/w3pyajlub/5-10-2012013.jpg https://s19.postimg.org/t4nn161qr/8-31-2012056.jpg https://s19.postimg.org/fmgqovplf/9-26-2012_010.jpg And some pedal shots: https://s19.postimg.org/v59l898ib/5-10-2012006.jpg https://s19.postimg.org/ipcveif6b/5-10-2012017.jpg https://s19.postimg.org/b83nzapn7/5-10-2012009.jpg |
Wow, thank you very much for those pictures! Like I said, I had never seen one before in person (or even online), so that definitely answered my question.

No Problem.:-X22
I'm a big 75-91 Econoline fan and I hate automatics.:D So I've had to do some searching on the Econoline manual transmission info. |

A lot of modifications and changes have and can be done on any vehicle as old as these are. |

My '81 E150 had the RUG/Rab 3+1 OD coming out of the floor too. Had the linkage go south on me but was able to graft in a Hurst Comp + shifter but it's shift cane was a little short so I fixed it up.

I have a 1965 Econoline Pickup with no motor or trans and found/bought a rebuilt 170 which is what came in mine originally according to the codes.
As for the listed transmission, it has this: Ford 3-speed manual, model 3.03 HEF Gears: 1st=3.41, 2nd=1.86, 3rd=1.00, R=3.51 Anyone know where I can find one (matching) to fit my pickup or what vehicles may have the same trans in them? I know a lot of vehicles have this trans but since there is a ton of information online it just begins to make no sense after a while. I'm on day three and have been told at least 9 different conflicting stories on where I can find one or what ai can get one out of. Appreciate anyone's help out there! |

You want the Ranchero & 1961/67 Econoline forum, where you will find like Econolines and their owners. Ford type 3.03 3 speed manual all synchromesh transmission: 1963/79 misc. Ford/Merc Passenger Cars; 1963/86 F100/250; 1963/87 Econoline; 1966/77 Bronco; 1980 Granada/Monarch. But, you will need this trans and all the shift linkage from a 1963/67 Econoline, due to the way it is mounted. |
Sorry, I thought that was what was being discussed here ( was viewing two threads at the same time in different windows). I tried to delete the post so it would not add to confusion in search engines but I could not find a way to do so. If you know how I will delete this and the other post as I have created a new thread in the correct area now. Appreciate you.

I thought this was a 1990 model but according to chart listed here this might be 1989. This is the mazda 5sp that sticks up from the mbc. |
