1986 Bronco AOD

I have a 1986 Bronco with the AOD trans in it. The question I have is, what is the difference between the 2WD and 4WD AOD's?? Can I use a 2WD AOD and put my transfer case behind it?? Thank you for any information you guys can give me.

You cannot use a 2WD AOD with a 4WD as the output shaft and extension housing are different lengths.

That's what I was afraid of, trying to save a little money instead of rebuilding the one that's in it. Thank you very much for the information.
