Coolant Filter
 

Anyone install the Dieselsites Coolant Filter? I did over the weekend. I opened my expansion tank and noticed a small amount of crud on it. I've also over the years have experienced crud in my coolant system. Now this could / may be prevented by regularly changing your coolant. Did I waste $175.00?

I have been mulling over the XDP kit for a while and wondering the same thing, is it worth it. My coolant was changed a while back when they did studs egr delete etc, have never had a problem with deltas.

wait a year and open the filter and you will have your answer. everything that will clog your oil cooler/coolant exchange unit will be in that filter.

I found sand, magnetic metal particles, and whats called as "dropped" "suspended" coolant additives, which will also clog your oil cooler/coolant exchange unit.

Thanks guys. Gave me a bit of peace of mind. The instructions that come with the kit say to change the filter every 3 months for the 1st 9 months, then once a year. I bought 3 filters when I ordered the kit. I think I'll hack open the filter in October and see what I discover.

I am having a devil of a time trying to get the thing to stop leaking. Last night I went with Permatex gasket sealer. If that doesn't do it I'm not sure what to do next. It's interesting though, the temperature sending unit isn't leaking at all, just about everything else is. 2 pieces of advice if you go with this kit, forget the teflon tape, go with something more serious, and 2nd - don't be afraid to tighten the fittings and plugs

wrap in the direction of the threads. If fitting jams up the tape, you wrapped it the wrong way.

I went with Permatex Gasket maker - all the leaks except the one on the "provided" pipe have stopped. I'll be calling DieselSite today.

All these leaks make me lean towards the XDP unit. I had been debating which one to get. Hope you get it all sorted out.

I think most of the leaks were self inflicted and you are going to face the same challenge with whatever filter you go with. We're not talking about leaks pissing coolant all over my engine and under the hood, we're talking about slow 3 - 5 drips a minute, not enough to even show up on the ground under the truck. The XDP is exactly the same as the Dieselsite's set up. Mounts in the same place, the hoses connect to the same places, they have the same pipe that goes into the intake manifold. Even the plugs are the same. I'm 100% confident I would have had the exact same issues with the XDP. The only thing that I can say is that Dieselsite's customer service has been excellent. I called yesterday and I'll have the replacement tomorrow.

I'm by no means advocating one over the other, on the other hand I don't want you guys to get the wrong impression that the Dieselsite's set up is a POS and I had coolant pissing all over the place.

When you guys do this, forget the teflon tape, go with something more serious - as I mentioned, I used the Permatex Liquid Gasket maker and none of the connections are now leaking, I just got a bad part, it happens.
