Oil Catch Cans

What does everyone think of them? Are they needed? Here is what I took off of Innovative Diesel's website in regards to them. The write up is for a Mishimoto catch can...but they all do the same thing.

"...Over time harmful oil will build up inside the turbocharger, intake manifold, intercooler and piping. A Mishimoto Oil Catch Can will prevent this from happening while it's all black finish will add a touch of style to your engine bay. An oil catch can serves other important purposes as well. It will prevent oil from getting into pressurized turbo plumbing, which can lead to couplers coming off under boost. Oil vapors can get into the intake system which will lower combustion temperatures and reduce overall efficiency. A Mishimoto Oil Catch Can will solve all these problems and give you the added security knowing that your performance parts are sAFE from harmful oil."

a lot of folks who put the catch cans on, take them off due to the smell.

you also have to consider the increase in blow by as the engine ages....that would result in a lot of unburnt fuel going into the air that should really be recovered by the crank case vent system plumbing which goes into the turbo.

Hmm...I guess I'll hold off then. Thanks Fritz.

Turbos gotta eat, same as the worms. I'm with the speaker of the house on this one.

You pulling that EGR system pic or whistling dixie?

:')

BTW, Fritz.

Can you repost your coolant pressure gauge detail. I gleaned and can't find the coordinates on it. Saved it, but my last computer was a dodge.

Thanx in advance if you will.

Denny

Currently whistling dixie. I may pick your brain a bit when it comes down to it though if you don't mind sir.

I'll let you know how it goes, when it goes. Doing the rad now. Hoses are in, I'm only putting in distilled so I can lose less on the elc if it fails. I'll run it for a week and make sure the systems tight, then stage the next (therms) and check for leaks, and then go after the coolers and then...............the filtration system.

I didn't wise up on the premium coolant 320 dollars later until the rad snapped after a flush and fill x 2 and the temp here in Michigan is purvey to just running distilled and watching the gauge until I know I'm bandaged up right.

:')

Degas bottle cap? If so...always a good call. Don't let that good stuff boil out of the system.
